Is "that infection" the staph infection that's been getting so much attention lately?

If so, then AIDS kills more people.

MRSA (presumably that's what you mean by "that infection going around") was recently the subject of a prevalence study that showed that more people die annually from MRSA than from AIDS (barely more but still more).

However this needs to be put in context in two key ways,
1. Most of the people who died from MRSA were weakened from other conditions. Otherwise healthy people accounted for only a minority of MRSA deaths.
2. More people die from influenza every year than AIDS.

So, I would worry about MRSA about as much as I worry about influenza (and I worry enough about influenza to get the vaccine every year). As for MRSA - wash hands, don't touch open wounds or contaminated dressings without gloves, and don't share personal items (including towels).

And above all, don't panic.

There's about 9 million strands of infections.

Thanks for clarifying.
