When my husband first brought our puppy home about two weeks ago, she seemed to be paper trained, she would go right on the puppy pads we had for her, and outside. Since then it's like she forgot where she was supposed to pee, she's peed in my husband's truck (only minutes after being taken out and going pee), on the rug, on the bed (again, after being taken out and peeing) Today, she peed a little on the floor, I took her out to see if she needed to finish her business, she peed outside. Not more then 10 minutes later she was peeing on the rug again. I don't get it, why the digression? I know you should crate train the dog, but my husband is also afraid that when we have to go away on a long trip in the car and she needs to be in the crate that she will be upset with us the whole time thinking we are punishing her. Help!?

Your puppy is still very young, and cannot hold her bladder very long. At that age, you can pretty much expect them to go every 15-20 minutes. And more than that, if they are playing and running around. Continue to use the pee pads, she needs some positive reinforcement when she goes outside/on the pee pad, a treat and lots of verbal praise. she will get the hang off it, it does take alot of time.
As for your car rides, a crate is definitely the safest mode of transport for a dog of any age. Crate training at an early age is the best thing to do, because then they dont mind being in it..during car rides.. or when you leave the house...for something. Just make sure it's a safe haven for them, toys, blankets..comfortable. that's their space.

good luck.

You're dog will not be upset if she has to be in a crate. All 6 of our dogs ride in a crate. it is safer for the dog and for you. Then if you get into an accident or hit the brakes hard, she won't go flying. I really suggest crate training. I would take her to the vet just to rule out any infections or anything. The best thing to do in the meantime, is always keep your eye on her, or she's in the crate and take her out very frequently.

Why would a dog be upset about being in a crate while in a car and not while in the house? A crate is a much safer place for them to be in the car anyway.
You said you know that dogs should be crate trained, so why aren't you doing it? That is why you are having problems is because you aren't being strict in her crate training.

Possibly a bladder infection. May want to make sure. Other than that, if you keep the pad out for a little while it may let her know thats where it goes.
