No, this sounds suspicious to me. Call the police department now! Make sure these guys really were cops and not some crooks in uniforms casing the place to rob you again.
Think about this. If you have not checked up on the Id's of the guys in uniform yet. Then your neighbors saw these same guys later. Would they report them?

Notice that you said you LET them search the house? Without a court order, a warrant, they cannot come into your house uninvited.

Now, why would you think that cops would want to disconnect your cameras? It's just curiosity on their part since people don't normally think to rig up a camera system. Stores, though, do it all the time.

It doesn't really seems suspicious from what I have read. If the previous owner still has your address as his last known, then it makes sense they would be knocking at your door. The fact that you have cameras up might have raised a red flag with them. Regardless of if they think you've got a drug house going or not, they can't, and won't, come take your cameras. Unless, of course they're about to breach your door. Just to clear up an incorrect answer, you have absolutely no grounds for a lawsuit.

they can search in response to a warrant signed by a judge--but you said after the search they just left. They never disconnected anything, according to you. Besides, they cannot disconnect cameras which are on private property with permission of the owner, and why would they?

Mmm, here in England, the only reason a policeman can enter a house uninvited would be to serve a warrant, carry out an arrest or if someone inside was in mortal danger, and no other reasons.

no, they can't because it is consider invasion of privicy. And if they do come and invade your home they have to have some kind of a warrent and I think that you have to be present when they search your house for anything.

YOU ASK A QUESTION AND THEN ASK ANOTHER ONE?

1) NO THEY CANNOT COME INTO YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT SOMEONE PRESENT AND A VALID SEARCH WARRANT.

2) SOUNDS FUNNY TO ME? WHAT DO THEY CARE ABOUT CAMERAS UNLESS THEY THINK THEY WERE STOLEN?
MAYBE THEY THOUGHT YOU WERE INTO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY?

The cops can do what ever they feel like doing. And your only recourse is to report the cops to the cops.lol. The cops are out of control. Protect yourself at all times.
