The proposal I have in mind involves giving my boyfriend a ticket and directions to hop on a train to my town and show up in a specific place at a specific time, where I will meet him.
Questions:
1. Any creative ideas for how I can make sure he doesn't make other plans for this particular evening? -- besides of course saying, "So what are you doing on Friday? I have other plans and won't be able to get together, but you shouldn't make plans with anyone else...I can't tell you why...." I was thinking of asking his sister to make plans with him -- which she would obviously expect to get canceled once he gets my note with "instructions."
2. What if everything is all set up but then he is rushing and gets stressed or he had a bad day and by the time he meets me he's tired and the moment isn't romantic anymore? Any suggestions for how to troubleshoot this proposal so that everything goes smoothly?
ps- He is expecting my proposal so no "Aren't you worried he'll say no?" answers.

1. His town is about 1.5 hours away from me.
2. I can't propose to him in his town because the romantic spot is in my city (I live in NYC, he lives in Connecticut).
3. And seriously, people, I don't want your opinions on women proposing. You're wasting your breath.

Maybe you should plan his take off in the morning, and have some interesting things to do during the day that can lead up to what you have planed in the evening, I think if he is expecting your purposal there will be no TIRED, he should be filled with excitement and wide awake and what perfect way to end a bad day anyway by someone makeing you forget about it. Good luck

1. How long is the train ride to your town? Could it also work to surprise him in his town? This way he doesn't have to sit on the train and be worried, nervous or tired.
2. To keep his mood high, you could send exciting text messages as to the events of the evening. Always keep him guessing and wanting.
3. I think talking with his sister would be the best option. Have her plan an evening out with him that will never happen. That way someone else is in on it, and you can talk to her to make sure all is going well through out the day.
4. Good luck

(1) Having a confederate is key to making is a surprise. Definitely get his sister involved, but rather than having him cancel on her, have HER cancel on him. Better yet, have her ask him for a big, big favor: you see, she's supposed to meet someone at a specific place and time, but she's come down with a cold and can't go...could you possibly go in her place? ;-)
(2) Make the location something relaxing, like a cafe. Give him instructions to ask for (insert name here), so the staff know it's him. You'll have paid in advance, and they'll bring a nice glass of wine and a dessert that he didn't order. He'll be pretty suspicious at this point...but he'll also be eating something sweet and having a chance to relax for a few minutes before you show up.
Good luck!

Simple, have his sister run to him saying that she over heard you on the hand phone that you are going to meet an ex-lover, you had carelessly left the map and plan of how you are going there. She took it without you noticing. She hand him the notes and advice him to go after you before is too late. If you are important enough, he will rush there as you desired and you are sure he will be happy that you are proposing to him rather than other people. (Note: please avoid talking to other guys before he meet you, or there might be misunderstanding) Good Luck

1) give him the ticket way advanced and tell him its importantor do the sister thing, very good idea!
2) well, i think it'd be really romantic if u chose a rainy day and when he got off the train he was tired and cold and hungry and there you where with an umbrella, hot chocolate and of course, the ring, ( u do have a ring right?)
good luck! have a great day!

I think asking his sister for help is your best bet. That way you know he will not have plans to do any thing else. You could also have her "ask you" to come so you can say you have other plans to put him off your trail totally. You really can do much about how his day goes before he gets to you but trust me once he see every thing you put together just for him he will forget any thing bad that happened that day.
Good Luck And Congratulations!!!!!!

Wow- this sure is 2007- a female proposing, and the guy already knows. You could always have a Blanket and small picnic with strawberries and whip cream waiting for him - I am sure he won't be tired then! Congratulations in advance.

Go to him to propose ... that way you will be certain of the plans. Surprise him after work with a boutonniere and a limo ride to dinner. I am sure any plans he might have made will take second place to yours.

Maybe tell him you have something that you need him to do that night, something menial and stupid. That way, he won't book something else, but he sure won't be expecting something wonderful.
Either that or get a friend of his in on it. Have HIM call your guy and set up something, to meet somewhere. Then when he goes to meet up with his friend, you'll be there instead.

1. You need someone else to make plans with him for you, but you know in reallity the plans are with you.
2. I wouldn't worry about it, he will quickly forget his day when he is surpriesed he is with you instead of the person he thought we would be with from #1!!
