Exactly. The Father should be loved not feared. He should be obeyed because of love , not of fear. There is no fear in love according to the New Testament. To instill fear is only for the ignorant, immature and unruly..

I think the word "fear" originally meant something different from what we now take it to mean. That something was to hold in great awe. Certainly, the commandment in Deuteronomy 6:5 (you shall love the Lord with all of your soul and all of your might) doesn't sound like an invitation to fear God.

Which one are you talking about, God the Son Jesus Christ or God the Father? or God the Holy Spook or Ghost! Watch out for this one on Halloween!!!
Hebrews 10:31 (KJV) It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Job 42:11 (KJV) Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over ALL THE EVIL that the LORD had brought upon him:

Since these morons apparently consider the ample (Old Testament) amount of killings and tortures He commits to be 'tough love', good luck finding any Xian answers to be reasonable. 'Oh no, love means what I want it to so it will fit my contradictory definition of God.'
If there were truly a loving God. history would be quite different and there wouldn't be a lot to fear.

For the unbeliever, the fear of God is to fear the judgment of God and eternal death, which is eternal separation from God. For the believer, the fear of God is something much different. The believer's fear is reverence of God."Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire." This reverence and awe is exactly what the fear of God means for Christians, atleast for me.

fear does not always have to mean you are afraid. I fear my Lord because I love Him and am in AWE of Him. It amazes me how He can protect and love me when I do not show Him love and do what He has asked.

We should fear loving God not for any punishment or ill fate but should fear him as we may not fall on his wrong side. So actually it is not fear of god but fer of our own misdeeds which god may not like. It would be in the same spirit as a child fears his or her loving parents.

A loving God? No such thing. The only thing this God loves is seeing people slaughtered in his name.

when the text says "fear" God it means have a holy reverence for. This means a respect and honor towards something. Its a foundational thing in the world that we do that for all authority figures (parents, government, or anyone that you respect). It helps us put into perspective how little we know compared to Him.

Without fear you won't obey.
It's not about love, it's about obedience.
