I have never been a very religious person. I do believe in the Bible even tho I honestly havent read the entire book. I guess what I am saying is that I feel so lost, depressed and very unhappy. Im 38 now and feel like it has been wasted time. Everyone says "Pray" go to church etc etc etc.... I do want to change but how?

Don't pray and don't go to church if you really want to find God.

Any intellectual Pursuit of God is doomed to fail because it always seeks God as something external.

You can never find something by looking where it is not.

Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within each of us. The moment we stop looking For God in silly places like clouds called heaven. We find him/her exactly where Jesus always said God was.

God waits patiently within for you to notice Her exactly where Jesus always told us he would be.

Love and blessings.

God is just a breath away. We look for a ready change the moment we think God is the answer. But Salvation is a gift. God prepared for us long before we were born. Luke 18. God is knocking on your heart right now! Revelations 3: 19-23. He knows you and he knows what you are about. You say you are depressed and you say you are unhappy. You are 38 but your life has not been a waste of time. No! It has been and experience that only God can reveal to you. Your past is a table of circumstances that made you illegible for the kingdom. God has a plan. Jeremiah 29:11.

The thing the Bible tells us, is that those who truly seek Him, will find Him. Be REAL - talk to God and tell God exactly what you have said here. Tell Him that you WANT to believe, but you need Him to reveal Himself to you in a way that you will understand. God wants to know you...He is always there, waiting to communicate with you. He loves you more than you can possibly imagine.

Read the Book of John in the New Testament. (I prefer modern translations, like 'THE MESSAGE.' The heart of God is Jesus. Read John to understand who Jesus is. Life is worth living. God wants you to have 'abundant life' while on earth, and also, eternal life with Him. He knows you better than you know yourself. He has a plan for your life. The thing that separates us from God is our sinful nature. Confess that you have done wrong, wasted time or messed things up. He forgives completely and immediately. No need to earn your way. It is as simple as asking. So, do not despair!! God will show you His plan, one step at a time. You are NEVER alone!

Yes, pray and go to church is part of it. And the community has given you some good scripture. But as you seek God, He will get close to you. You desire that relationship that only knowing and accepting Jesus as Lord will give you. Ask Jesus to be your Lord, and make Himself to be real to you. I am sure you know John 3:16, but if not look it up. But in His being crucified , He did it for you. He loves you so much, that if you were the only one to accept Him, he would have done it. Just for you, and anyone else that will say Yes, Lord, I need you.

"The kingdom of God is within you and all around you"
from the gospel of Thomas. All of your peace will always come from within, sit quite, look at a flower, the sky, everything, its all right here for anyone to see and understand
again sit quite. The last thing I would suggest would be to go to church unless you want to belong to some kind of a club, even Jesus said the lord God shell not dwell in a house made of wood and stone, a church is not the house of God.
God is within you, always has been always will be, look inside.

it sounds like to me that god is reaching out to you, you have to meet him half way. get on your knees and ask him as sincerely as you know how, to come to you, to guide you, tell him that you need him and you need to know what to do next, to show you a sign, to please come into your heart and life and change you inside and out, that your ready to accept him and you need forgiveness for your sins. he will come to you, don't be depressed, thats satan, he wants to bring you down, he knows your on the brink of finding god and he is trying to do whatever he can to stop you, don't let him win. find a good church in your area, one that teaches the word of god, and start going to a bible study there, you will learn so much. if you have any questions or need any help with anything just give me a shout, i will be more than happy to help you the best i can, and if i can't help you with something then i'll ask someone who can and get back with you. i'll start praying for you, i know god will come through, he's already got his eyes on you, thats why you feel the way you do, you feel him tugging at you, and satan is tugging the other way, your basically in a tug of war, and your the rope. once god chooses you though, it's only a matter of time that he gets you, my advice...surrender. god bless.

All you have to do is seriously believe and ask God into your heart. He knows you already He is just waiting for you to come to him. You do not have to go to church to believe in God, although I have been through this personally and I started going to church 3 months ago and it has changed my life. Just talk to God, there is not a specific way you have to talk to him, so just talk like He is in the room with you, tell him that you need him and he will help. I hope this works...

Don't worry about your life up until now. God said He would restore what seems like "wasted time" and transform it into purpose. The first thing that needs to be done is to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior for the remission of sin.

Acts 16:30-31
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved...”

Romans 10:9-10
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

No works. No payment. Christ did it all on the cross. Just believe, and receive.

Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.

2 Timothy 1:9
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.

Once your salvation is taken care of, you have an open line to God the Father. You now have a personal relationship with your Creator.

Well, here is what God says about finding Him....

" For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you and expected end. (hope in the end) Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I WILL hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and FIND ME, when ye shall search for me with ALL YOUR HEART." Jeremiah 29:11-13

" Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you." James 4:8

These are Bible promises that you can claim for yourself. God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2)

I will pray for you to find God. Read His Word....that is His letter to you.

A good place to begin is by reading the Bible. Start at Genesis and go from there.
