I was wondering if i fight it and extend it, will the officer show up in court? i know that CHP does show up because they get paid for that but not city police....is this true? do i have a chance to fight it?....if youre gonna tell me "you shouldnt have been speeding", dont waste your energy typing it....i bet you wouldnt say that if you were the one with the ticket....something to think about isnt it?

There is not a single Department in the State of California that doesn't pay it's Officers overtime for Court, traffic or otherwise.......doesn't matter if they are City, County or State. I know for me, that 3 hours of guaranteed time & a half for what would probably be less than 30 minutes was ALWAYS worth it. Plus we are given a subpoena, and it is not legal to ignore them so we go unless we are working and cannot get away from whatever we are involved in........otherwise, I have never missed a court date.

If I don't go to court, that's it. No choice but to pay the fine.

If I DO go to court, maybe the officer is sick that day and doesn't make it in.
Or most likely, he does make it in. But they may barter my charge down and I pay a lower fine, or same fine but with no points that affect my insurance.
Or they don't do anything but allow me to plead my case. Maybe the judge will lower my fine based upon my story.

Any or all of it could happen. Or none of it. But if I don't go, I'll never know. But if you're paid by the hour and you don't get paid time off from work, then maybe just paying the fine will be cheaper in the long run.

Oh. For your original question, yes, the cop WILL show up to court. Bet on it. That's why you can only HOPE that he's sick that day.

The thinking should have started before you got the ticket.

Police officers do show up for court, the advantage that you have is the judge will have your case heard earlier so the Police Officer can get back to work.

WHEN A TICKET IS WRITTEN, IT GOES TO THE COURT, PRECINCT AND OFFICER KEEPS A COPY.
WHEN YOU EXTEND YOUR CASE IT IS CARRIED OVER.
THE OFFICER IS NOTIFIED AND WILL STRICKEN THAT FROM HIS DOCKET OF CASES.
USUALLY ALL CASES WRITTEN TO THE CITY COURT ARE SENT TO THE OFFICER TO SHOW UP AT COURT AND I HAVE SAT THERE ALL DAY FOR HEARINGS, TRIAL ETC..
IF I AM ON DUTY THAT DAY I LEAVE MY AREA AND GO TO COURT. IF I AM OFF I AM GOING TO SHOW UP BECAUSE I AM MANDATED TOO AND I CAN NOW GET OVERTIME.
DO YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO FIGHT IT, YES IT IS CALLED YOUR RIGHT TO APPEAR IN COURT, BE HEARD AND PRESENT YOUR SIDE FOR THE JUDGE TO WEIGH?
SO YOU JUST LEFT THE DRAG STRIP IN POMONA AND FORGOT YOU WERE NOT AT THE TRACK?
THANK YOU.

All police departments pay their officers to show up in court. It's part of their job responsibilities, so if they weren't get paid it would be considered off-the-clock labor, which is a violation of labor laws.

I get cash overtime if I show up at court.
And I get a 2 day suspension if I don't.
So, of course I am going to show up for court.

And before I became a Police Officer, I got my share of speeding tickets.
I knew I was wrong, and I paid them.
So I have been there, too.
You shouldn't have been speeding.

Officers have assigned court dates, and times. If you get a continuance, it will just be put on the Officers next court date.
