Just get her a present because you love her and you're excited about getting married. Present it in such a way that she doesn't feel dumb if she didn't think to do so as well. When I got married, I chose a very nice watch for my husband. I gave it to him the day before the wedding so that he could go to a jeweller and have the band sized properly and he could actually wear it for the wedding. He thought it was great, but never thought to get a gift for me; and that was fine, because my purpose was to express my love to him. (He did, incidentally, give me a fabulous engagement ring five months earlier, and an extremely nice present for my birthday which took place on our honeymoon.) Don't worry about the tradition thing. Just get her a great gift that says "I love you." Your thoughtfulness will make the occasion more special, and she will treasure that gift always.
Incidentally, I'm very impressed that you are thinking about such things, with the wedding being so far away and all. That is very advanced in 'guy world.' Here is a hint that will score you MAJOR points: Next time you two have a day free together, and she asks what you want to do, look at her romantically in the eyes and say, "Let's go register."

Geez, what is up with all the dirty answers... On a more serious note, giving each other a gift is not a nessessity. I actually told my fiance that I might get him something and he said that all he wanted was me and that the cost of the wedding was more then enough (we're both paying for it).
If you really want to get her something though feel free to, I bet she would be so suprised and happy. Some ideas.. a necklace or bracelet that she's been eyeing would do really nicely. You don't have to break the bank just for something like that, wal-mart has pretty jewelry.
Wrap it up and have one of the bridesmaids put it in her dressing room so that she'll get it before she walks down the aisle. A card telling her how much you look forward to being her hubby and how much you love her, how much she means to you would be an awesome touch too. Good Luck! and congrats on your wedding!

My husband and I didn't, but I have heard of couples doing it. We considered our rings (as well as ourselves) our gifts to each other. However, we didn't write our own vows, so I wrote him a letter that morning, and he considers that a gift in and of itself, and has kept it. As for common wedding presents between a bride and a groom, I have heard of brides getting some "special" photos done for their grooms, if you catch my drift. I don't mean nude, but lingerie shots, sometimes of them in their bridal lingerie. I've also heard of grooms buying their brides wedding day jewelry. I think anything goes, however, if the couple are going to exchange gifts.

Traditionally, the bride & groom give each other a gift through their honor attendants before they see each other on the day of the wedding with a card or note attached.
I got married a month ago and I decided I wanted to give it to him myself...so I had my maid of honor tell him to bring his gift with him when we first saw each other.
Get something that is special and significant. My husband and I are Christians and he got me a white gold cross necklace. My husband is a football fanatic so I got him tickets to an NFL game coming up. Totally different gifts but we both appreciated them very much.
One more thing...he wasn't aware of the gift exchange until a couple weeks before when I mentioned something about it. I think it would be a good idea to talk to her about it (or maybe her mom or maid of honor if you'd rather) to make sure you are on the same page.

I would get her something sentimental, just to show your into the whole wedding thing as much as she is, maybe find a locket to give ehr on the wedding day, and put pictures of you two in there, or maybe a personalized picture frame with your names and wedding date on there, and attach a little note saying I can't wait to add our picture to this. or something, just give her something that will make her grin ear to ear when shes walking down the aisle, because she knows shes with a man who cares so much about her.

What we are doing is having a gift from each other to give at the hotel after the wedding as the first gift as hubby and wife.

Give her a gift the day of the wedding sent through the Maid of honor or even the night of the reshearsal. This can be anything that has meaning to both of you. The more meaning the better. Good Luck

My husband sent a dozen yellow roses to me on the morning of our wedding as well as a charm for my charm bracelet - and I got him a watch with our names and wedding date engraved on the back.
It is a wonderful idea but remember a gift requires no reciprocation ... and she may or may not be aware of this as a "tradition" ..... my husband told me to be on the lookout for a special surprise from him .... and I wanted to also provide a special surprise for him .... it worked beautifully!
Good Luck!

It's not mandatory. My husband gave me some beautiful blue topaz stud earrings when we saw them on St. Thomas on our honeymoon. I gave him a DeWalt cordless power drill on our first month anniversary because there was too much going on at the wedding. I don't think he's ever been more surprised or appreciative in his surprise since.
