well i think i have some experience with this my fiancees mom has 4 great danes. they are gentle giants, and are extremely humorous. they are just as quirky and become obsessive just like small dogs can. one of their dogs constantly puts toys in the food dish to try and keep the other dogs from eating the food. they are also notorious leaners - they will lean their 200lbs right onto you and sometimes shove you into walls, etc. they are big enough to hit the water dispenser on the fridge and will do it if their water dish gets empty. if you have ever seen giant breed puppies play with eachother you know what i mean when i say humorous - they look like elephant seals fighting and they sound like em too! big dogs are also very lovable and a lot of them dont know their size (i.e. have a tendency to think they're a lap dog!) i guess one of the best benefits of having a large dog or pack of them would be nobody would be dumb enough to mess with your house.

I have two large breed dogs, a Bulldog (midsized body but b/c of weight considered large breed) and a Lab.
Main reason I suppose is protection. But I just like bigger dogs b/c they seem to be less "yippy" and aren't as hyper (the Lab was hyperactive until about 3) I also use the lab for hunting and she's a great swimmer. Large dogs I think you can play rougher with as well and most "worker" dogs are large breeds. Any dog is a good dog b/c of companionship. They are even introducing dogs into nursing homes to improve morale among the elderly residents

I've had large dogs; hunting dogs and a German Shepherd and toy dogs. What I like best about large dogs is: You can't beat getting down on the floor and hugging a large dog. It's the best. I feel safer walking a large dog. I like hearing those big feet walking across the floor and that big sigh when they lay down. Often just having one is a pretty good deterrent to crime. There is nothing quite so great as hearing that big dog bark. I love it.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love small dogs too. Just this person asked about benefits and greats of big dogs.

I have five dogs that are over 100 lbs. I dont need an alarm system. When unwanted people come to my door they usually dont stay past the knocking stage. Believe it or not my heating bill has gone way down. They just make my whole family feel more secure. And you can really hug a Giant dog. I have Saints. Now if you need to know the disadvantages I can start that list too.

The dogs that interest and appeal to me most are large breed dogs There are a lot of great little dogs, but for some reason, they just don't capture my interest the way big breeds do. As a rule, they are not as excitable and hyper as so many small dog breeds. They frequently have a presence and dignity about them that I really like.

Larger dog breeds are more often bred for temperament, meaning that are generally less aggressive and don't bark as much. What might be permissible in a chihuahua (growling, yapping) would be downright scary in a great dane.
So firstly they are genreally more placid than smaller dogs.
Surprisingly it is more often medium dogs that have the most amounts of energy, large and small dogs are quite content to laze around for parts of the day (but all dogs need to be talken out for excercise).
Larger dogs are also the more common than small dogs for things like farm work, there are also specific breeds for this (Blue heeler, shepherds, kelpie) .
As a pet larger dogs are just as friendly as smaller dogs, they love to cuddle just as much, they are better guard dogs due to their size (intruder might be intimidated) and they can give you bigger kisses.

i have 4 dogs..two small and two large.
large dogs are a bit more intimidating to ppl so they tend to be more wary of messing w/you when you are out and about. (not that my dogs are cujo or anything..but Patch my catahoula just looks scary lol).
large dogs are also a bit more forgiving w/children. my sons pal around w/all my dogs. they are gentle and sweet w/the little dogs and the big dogs too, but they are able to really rough house more w/the big dogs and i don't really worry about my kids hurting the bigger ones since they have thicker bones and out weigh my boys!
They are also friendlier w/ppl (at least mine are) while my little dogs seem more cautious and wary of ppl.
i love all sizes of dogs...but there is just something about being able to throw your arms around a huge slobber bucket when you feel down and have them lean into you as if they want to say..."it's gonna be okay"...where w/a little dog (again..mine) just lick me to death and are a bit hyper.

because they don't like small dogs.
I love big dogs cause they are not as yappy as small dogs are and They are just as loveable as any dog.
I love big dogs cause they can protect me as a small dog can't jump as high as a large dog if a robber came into the house.
Some get large dogs to breed or to show or to have as a service dog(i.e. labs, golden retrievers)
I get big dogs because I have always had large dogs.
I have a Rottweiler mix and a Lab Mix

Large dogs make better heaters. They also provide a better security blanket for those of us with panic issues. It's easier to tell when you need to wash windows (the nose, tongue smears are easier to see) and there is less risk of squashing them when you walk, sit down, roll in your sleep. Oh and they are great pillows when you are watching tv at night.
