Although I save the pics from my digital camera on an online website, a file on my desktop, and on a flash drive, I am afraid to lose my pictures as I have in the past when I had saved them on a CD-R so I end up leaving the pics on the memory card as well. Will this eventually wear out the card? Is it BETTER to erase them as you go along?

OR, as inexpensive as they are, get more memory cards. Currently 2gb memory cards are around $20 and 1gb are around $15.

I use a multiple storage approach. Yes, I leave some on my memory cards for a while, but I always download to my computer. Long term storage on the memory card leaves too much to chance, especially if you are writing to and deleting from that card over and over.
Even though I download, I don't use my computer's harddrive, as my many digital photos were filling it up. I bought some portable HD's when they go on sale. I also use flashdrives (fairly inexpensive) and download copies to both. Yes, I also use CD-R storage and online space on places like Snapfish or such.

I hope you find this helpful.

Flash memory generally fails on write operations. Older flash lifetime was measured in the 10,000s of writes, but new devices can take millions of writes.

There is no good reason not to leave your pictures on your card if you are not running out of space.

It does no harm. However it takes longer to dump new photos into your PC because it is first going to bring in those old ones. Also you are limiting the number you can take of a new photo opportunity because all the old clutter is taking up space there.

It's made for the memory. As long as you have room for more pics than your okay. But i think having those three locations with pics in them is fine.

No, it will not matter. It just decreases the amount of new pictures you can add to it.
