HIV is thought to be a virus that started out in animals and then made the jump to humans and evolved in a manner such that it can spread fairly efficiently from person to person.

Ebola is thought to be a virus that affects mostly animals. Occasionally it makes the jump to humans and then there's a localized outbreak. It spreads from person to person very efficiently (much more so than HIV) but because it's so very deadly, the localized outbreaks tend to die out quickly... it turns out that people get terribly sick and die of Ebola so very quickly that they have limited opportunities to spread it far and wide.

Other than that, they don't have much in common.
