I recently rescued (and am keeping) a chihuahua who 3 weeks after her rescue gave birth to 4 pups (with 3 survivors) and when I got her I was told she would not eat dog food. Well, I put her on Canidae as I had heard great things about it and she loves it!!! I will be switching my other 2 dogs (malamute and Pit bull/golden retriever) to it as well as I would like to have the same food for both the big and small dogs. One thing concerns me and that is why I am asking here, I have done quite a bit of research and found a few links that Canidae has been making dogs sick and had acetaminophen in it recently. Then I searched again and found claims that those are false. Does anyone know any reliable resources for checking on Dog foods and recalls, or if these stories are correct.

Also, as a side note and totally off topic but here I go anyways, I am a naturalist and love my job. So much so I was going to become a teacher. But 7 years of college doesnt fit and I can only go part time. So, I decided to go to school to be a vet tech, I already work with animals and love it and would love to make a difference besides all the rescue and wildlife rehab I do. Thank you all in this forum for helping me with my decision even though you did not know you were.

yes, my pits LOVE it, they do well. i have heard some people talk about dogs not doing so well, but i am sure its due to an allergy to one of the meats in the food. i also love the fact its all life stages.
as for the tainted dog food?
it was given to someone to test in a plastic bag. no for sure answer it was even canidae or if it was in the food at the time of packing. i dont believe it for one min, and if trace amounts of acetaminophen is the worst thing to end up in my kibble i think ill sigh in relief.(tho i dont believe its true at all)
BTW, here is a link to the story if you havnt already seen it

I fed Canidae but 2 of my dogs never adjusted to it -- they have very sensitive digestive systems. I have since found rawfeeding (whole prey model diet) and will never look back. I don't like any kibble. Period. Why not look into it? It's really easy once you get the hang of it, it'll be CHEAPER than Canidae, and it's the best thing you could do for your dog health-wise. That being said, IF I fed kibble and IF I didn't have 2 dogs with very sensitive stomachs, I would probably feed Canidae ALS (Those are 2 very big "ifs" though). I believe Canidae is as high quality as any other grain-ridden kibble. Canidae also has a grain free formula which is just as good as all other premium dehydrated doom nuggets.

Yeah well I feel all my dogs Canidae, and I use 6 bags a month and have been using it for a looong time now. I have been thru different batches and different lots.. I have written Canidae and they said this..
Thanks for your inquiry, CANIDAE is committed to excellence and unfortunately, with the advent of the internet, forums and blogs, institutions and individuals can make claims which can be both true and false. We take every claim, seriously and CANIDAE is committed to providing your pets’ healthy super premium pets foods. Your pets and ours are an extension of our family.
Sincerely,
Canidae Pet Foods
It's either some one who can't afford good dog food, or it's someone who works for one of the crap dog food companies.. It's a lie.. Just a product of the internet that is full of fools.. You are good to check, but none of it 's true.

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ This site is an excellent source of information regarding dog food quality. They have a rating system from a high of 6 to a low of 1 starhttp://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=528&cat=3 This is the rating for Canidae (5 out of 6 stars), which I would say makes it a very good food.

What I might be concerned with is that the chi is getting too much protein. Canidae is perfectly fine food, and there are no stories about it resulting in an ill dog. Just make sure that you're using a small breed version if possible.

The reports about Canidae making dogs sick are all false. I as well as many of my friends have looked into it and have found no evidence of anything wrong with Canidae.

Canidae is an excellent choice. I have an 10 year old american eskimo, a 1 year old ****-zu, and a 4 month old pit bull. they all love it and have had no problems. I started them on canidae about 6 months ago and it is fine.

Canidae is remarkably good. I can't believe those claims are true. Check out this journal. I have found it very useful over the last 6 years.

That had circulated on one of the lists I'm on, and I thought it had to be false. Glad to hear there's nothing to it.
Canidae is a really good commercial food.
