Other than slightly better graphics and Xbox Live (and games but thats a matter of opinion) the PS3 is better. You get more for the money, and a WAY more reliable console, I'm trying to decide too, and thats what I have found, hope I helped.

The PS3 is better. The ps3 can be used as a computer, however you can't use windows, it can only be used as a linux ubuntu computer. There are very good games for the ps3 right now. you need to pay 50 dollars a month if you want an xbox live account. If you don't have an account, you can't play online multiplayer. The ps3 is free of monthly fees.

What answer do you expect when you put this in the Playstation section?
Furthermore, what review was bad about the Xbox 360? What did the reviews criticise?
If you're interested, below the line in this answer I'll try and bust some myths that some answerers just repeat over and over without knowing what it means.
But to sum it up:
The Xbox 360 is more powerful when it comes to games.
PS3's cell processor is great for streamed floating point calculations. However these calculations are for predetermined calculations. Games however must react to unpredictable player input. Therefore, the one and only general purpose CPU of the PS3 is used in games. The Xbox 360 has 3 general purpose CPUs.
This will not change in the future. Even if the programmers get more used to the hardware, it will still not be able to change the way the Cell needs a lot of time to react to program branches.
You can connect your PC to the Xbox 360 and watch high definition movies on the Xbox without the need to get Blue Ray or HD DVD.
You can also watch your photos or listen to MP3s. You can also replace a game's Music with your own MP3s if you want.
The Xbox 360 has the most exclusive game deals at this time. Almost all games that come out for the PS3 in the next year will also be on the Xbox 360.
However Halo and other great games like Bioshock, Crackdown, Gears of War and the likes, racing games like Forza 2, Project Gotham Racing will not be found on the PS3.
Graphically the consoles are on par. Sometimes the Xbox is slightly better than the PS3. Current sports games like Madden 08 or Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 have slowdowns or run half as fast on the PS3 than on the Xbox 360.
Chatting to your friends is easier on the Xbox 360. On the PS3 your friends have to be in the same game. On the 360 it doesn't matter what your friends play. You can always talk to them and invite them to the game you play (or vice versa).
And currently it seems, Microsoft adds more functionality with each revision of the Xbox, whils Sony chops one feature off the PS3 after another. First the PS2 games get emulated after the PS2 chips got removed, and the new 40 GB model doesn't play PS2 games at all.
So while I probably will be voted down for this in the Playstation area, these are the facts. Just check some of the links below for proof about the comparison between Xbox and PS3

Now for some corrections to some answers:
"HDMI 1.3 on PS3 makes better colors" by NYY 27 in 07!!!:
The HDMI on the Xbox 360 is able to provide the same color space as the PS3 in regards to games.
Basically, the only difference will be in Hi Def movies. And to see the difference of this, you will need a *very* expensive TV or HD Beamer. Basically, if you use this equipment, you won't buy a PS3 to watch movies.
Also by NYY 27 in 07!!! "The cell processor is an extremely powerful micro processor [...] The xbox 360 has a 3 core processor, which is strong in general processing, albeit not the best for video games."
Sorry, but you got it the other way round. Check the first IGN link below. While true, that the hardware itself is more powerful, the software that drives it, can't make much use of the architecture.
A Forumula 1 car is without doubt more powerful than a SUV. However, the F1 car can only use the full power on the race track only.
The SUV is an all purpose car, that is powerful off road, powerful when hauling a trunk full of shopping around, powerful to make a vacation etc.
And the same is true for the PS3. The Cell processor is powerful. But this power is only usable with non-branching non-interactive programs like Folding at Home and similar.
For games, the man power is done by the General Purpose CPU. And of this the Xbox has 3 and the PS3 only one.
PS3's "...GPU which is specialized to work with the cell processor to render DX10 like graphics by pooling it's RAM" by Shadowfyre.
DX10 is not there to make better graphics. DX10 is a programming library for Microsoft Windows. Like Open GL it's only a way for a programmer to tell the graphics hardware how to display a 3D scene.
The graphics will be the same on Open GL and DirectX.
Furthermore, the PS3 can pool its RAM all it wants (the Xbox does that too). However, the Memory bandwith for the PS3 is about 48 GB/second. Whereas the Xbox moves graphics data at over 250 GB/second.
While the PS3 has nice graphics processors, it's the equivalent of putting a NASCAR racing car into the ruch hour traffic jam on a bumpy country road. It could go faster, but currently it's not moving quicker than the tractor next to it.
"ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data" also by Shadowfyre:
There are not that much PS3 exclusives. And Blue Ray won't make the games any better. Look at the PC. The PC has virtually unlimited Hard-Drive storage space. Why do the game makers still make games with less than 4 or 5 GB? Because they don't need to.
This additional space has to be filled with content. And making this content needs more time. And more time costs more money. Way more money than the game will finally bring in if they filled the whole 50 GB with unique content.
The only advantage in Blue Ray is, you can put all language versions on one disc because of the space.
And due to the low seeking speed of Blue Ray drives, game companies often double or triple important game content on the disc, so the PS3 doesn't have to jump to each reading position that much.

ps3 is better because...
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)
- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $399
(elite)- $479
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

The Playstation 3 because
*Cell Processor- The cell processor is an extremely powerful micro processor built of 8 processors (SPE's) and one PPE. This processor is built for extreme amounts of processing and is very useful for multi tasking through artificial intelligence, physics, lighting navigation, etc- The xbox 360 has a 3 core processor, which is strong in general processing, albeit not the best for video games.
*RSX GPU- The RSX is a powerful GPU which is specialized to work with the cell processor to render DX10 like graphics by pooling it's RAM.- The xbox 360's GPU can only handle DX-9, while is good in the graphics department, though not the best.
*Blu Ray- The next generation disc medium which can store up to 50GB (100GB in experimental models) The extra space allows game developers to make large responsive environments, complex artificial intelegance, HD video and audio, etc. without compression.- The xbox 360 only uses DVD for games, which can only hold 9GB, which results in short games, aka Halo 3, Bioshock, and gears of war.
*Other operating systems- The ps3 can get different operating systems installed, such as Linux, allowing it to be an alternative computer, and you can install many diferent programs.- The xbox 360 cannot do this
*Web browser- The ps3 has a decent web browser, which you can go to many different web sites with, it does have basic flash updates, but it does need to be improved upon, including in java, though this can be fixed easily via a firmware upgrade. Many popular sites like myspace and youtube are accessable though.- the xbox 360 doesn't have one
*Play TV- Pretty much Tivo for your ps3, a tuner that you can record things with. Though it has only been announced to launch in Europe so far.
*Interchangeable hard drive- This pretty much means you can change the size of your hard drive with any hard drive so you can store more things.- you have to buy an expensive MS HDD for the 360
*Built in wifi- Wifi lets you connect to the internet wirelessly- With the xbox 360 you have to buy a wifi adapter for $100, this comes standard in the PS3.
*Free Online- the xbox 360 costs $50 per year
*Playstation Home- Playstation home is an interactive community of ps3 users where you can play games or meet up with friends and hang out at your virtual home and hang outs, as well as stream live media(releasing in october, and is FREE)
* Games- For now good games include; Heavenly Sword, Resistance Fall of Man, Rainbow Six Vegas, Folklore, warhawk, lair, and motorstorm. Good upcoming games are Ratchet and Clank Future, Call of Duty 4, Haze, Uncharted:Drakes Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo Prologue, Eye of Judgment, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM confrontation, Tekken 6, Time Crisis 4, White Knight Story, and Final Fantasy XIII. Over 300 games will be released by next spring.

You won't be dissapointed with either one but I think that PS3 is much better. It does so much more for only $50-$100 more. The exclusive games for PS3 have much better graphics and detail than 360 too.
I highly recommend PS3.

Get the PlayStation 3 in 2008. There are good games that are coming out for the PlayStation 3 during that year (such as Killzone 2). Good luck on your decision.
