I have never heard of anyone dying form impetigo. It is fairly benign skin bacteria which is common. Its a staph infection which should not be confused with the super bug which is also a staph infection, but a different more virulent kind called MRSA or methycillin resistant staph aureus. There are several different kinds of staph infections and the one the kid died from probably was not caught early and ended up causing sepsis and getting into the blood stream where it reeked haavok.
My daughter had impetigo about 4 yrs ago and I went to the Dollar store and bought some Neosporin and applied it to her face and lips and it went away with the help of some antibiotics.
The best prevention is washing hands and keeping your hands to yourself.

You don't die from impetigo. It is an infection on your skin from bacteria. People get it on the back of their hands from wiping their nose and not washing their hands or other parts of their body from just not washing enough or properly.
The treatment for impetigo is either an antibiotic ointment or an oral antibiotic but you don't die from it.

I had it in my hair before. I got it from someone that had lice and had it, as well as the lice... but I never heard anyone dying from it. It is a skin staph infection. My hair fell out in one area about the size of a quarter but it went away after meds from the doctor.

first, no one dies from impetigo.
second, good hygiene will prevent you from getting it. don't make skin contact with others, and wash your hands frequently, carry a hand sanitizer like Purell with you and use it every hour when you are not at home.
