A military unit carrying out a mission patrolling an area where an opponent and or enemy has been sited. Securing a active hot zone where there are militants hiding in what we call, ''a safe house''. The insurgents attack, set I.E.D's improvised explosive devices ) along the sides of roads and wait for our troops who are patrolling the hot zone to appear .The insurgents have look outs called ''spotters'' and when are units Drive through the set up / ambush area , they attack killing as many troops as possible . Then the cowards get the hell out of the kill zone before we can reinforce the area and blend in with the civilian population. Fighting a unseen enemy! IRAQ.

Patrolling in a military sense can mean differnt things.
Route Patrolling is a recon along a specific route, usually in preparation for a convoy or move by a higher echelon formation to ensure security and safety. ie. no ambushes, all the bridges are in place and secure, no roads washed out.
Point Patrolling or Area Patrolling is a patrol to see what is happening in a specific area, which may or may not be held by enemy forces. For example, what defenses does the enemy have on a bridge.
Patrolling in force or movement to contact is an agressive patrolling formation used to find and fix enemy forces in preparation for an attack.
Specific tactical patrolling may be focused on snatching high value prisoners or Harassement patrols.
Hope that this helps. The only common element is that there is usually a small number of troops involved and the intent is not to hold ground. However, there were trench raids (aggressive patrols) in WW 1 that had upwards of 200 participants.

Without playing games, don’t be available 100% of the time or let your life be an open book. A man that comes on too strong or doesn’t have outside interests will scare a woman away just as much as it would if the circumstances were reversed. Read here https://tr.im/qR3m3
Women don’t want to feel as though they are completely responsible for your happiness and that is what it feels like when the other person has no outside interests. Men who are overeager or jump when the woman says jump are the ones who are more likely to end up in the friend zone. This doesn’t mean that you should play the game of not calling for a few days; it means that you should set healthy boundaries until you both naturally find a spot for the other in your lives.

Cops patrol the neighborhood, well most of the time.
Military conducts patrols.

For Military means, like driving/walking around and making sure everythings going well, and taking out any threats in the area. Like a cop patrols the streets looking for criminals and crimes going on, exact same concept.

It's a bit like a cop walking a beat, making sure everything is OK, but ready to shoot it out if need be.
