I'm getting a tattoo in a few days and I've been reading that it's bad for them if you sweat a lot while they're new. I'm in 2 classes where I will sweat, one w/ weights (not a lot of sweat)and the other step aerobics (a lot). I can't miss classes, so should I wait until school's out, which wouldn't be until summer, when I'd still sweat just not as much, to get it?
It'd be on my shoulder area, so at least half of it would be under tighter clothing.

You simply cannot do those things when you are trying to heal a tattoo. Best to wait it out to get optimal healing.

The very biggest issue is that there is just loads of MRSA connected with gyms that could literally be deadly with new tattoos.

Edit notes - I am a tattoo artist and studio owner...

Normal, your tattoo does all kinds of stuff for a couple of weeks. Not to dis your shop, but tattoos should not be covered more than the 1st two hours after getting them. After that, they need to breath. You should only do this or a variation of this: (petroleum, saran, neosporin, etc. have proven to have problems, and are 'old school') wash with antibacterial soap, pat dry with clean paper towels' put a light coating of unscented Lubriderm wait a few minutes and pat off (with clean paper towels) the sweating/seeping and do this every so often when you see it' moist (often color or image shows on paper towel - don't worry) Keep it uncovered as much as possible (especially the 1st 3 days. No soaking, no swimming, no direct streams of water, no sun. No picking at it - leave it alone No sunscreen until it is healed, and then high SPF Good luck

Wait until school is out, the healing process takes a maximum of two weeks, so time it so as not to mess up your schedule for the summer too.

I would wait, or skip a few classes. Or talk to the actual tatoo artist before you get it done. I've got two tatt's and have done pretty much everything they tell you to do (although I'll be honest I've never put sun screen on mine and they have yet to fade)...but I could see it possibly being ok if you keep it covered (with gauze or a band-aide) during working out. Good luck.
