I've been a Wiccan for a little over a year, I was Agnostic for several years before that, and a Christian from the beginning because my parents raised me to believe that Christianity was all there was in the world. When my best friend since I was two found out that I was a Wiccan, she called me every bad thing she could think of because I was no longer a good person.
I am 20 years old, I don't smoke, I don't do any drugs, I don't drink and I've never had sex. Yet I know 15-year-old christian girls who do all of those things, and my friend honestly believes that those girls are better people than me based only on the fact that they are christian! She believes that my friend's father who beats her for being 'overweight' (she only weighs 140 lbs) is a better person than me because he says he's a christian.
How do other Christians feel about this? Are Christians the only good people based on the fact that they are Christians and the rest of us are not? I'm curious.

to 'James Bond' it's not to flameboat. A few of my other Christian friends agree with her... I just wanted some other Christian opinions.

To Kenny A. Is that to say that you believe that if a person never heard of Jesus because they live in a foreign country that no one has ever spoken the name of Jesus in, that they will go to hell based only because no one ever heard of Jesus there?

I am a Christian and by no means do I believe that only Christians are good people - in fact, not all those who claim to be Christians are good people.
True Christians are generally speaking considered "good" people, at least most of the time. And just because someone does something bad, doesn't make them a "bad" person. Christians ARE the ones who are going to heaven, but that doesn't mean they're the only good people here on earth.
It just depends on the individual. Whether they are really, truly a Christian or not. I know plenty of people who are not Christians and don't even pretend to be, yet they would be considered (and I do consider them) good people. Simply calling yourself a Christian doesn't make you one, there's so much more to that.
"Good" is such a general term. But in short, the answer is, no, Christians are not the only "good" people.

I come from a Christian back ground, but I am a Witch, so for me personaly i do not believe that only Christian can be good people, but every body has the potential to be good or evil depending on the path they choose to follow. All of those things you mentiond do not determine weather you are good or bad, just the kind of person you have become. I think in comparision if you do not act like they are acting towards you right now then you are the better person.

Blessed Be.

The best thing about being a Christian is that you are forgiven and will not have to be sent to hell forever. No one is perfect, there are Christians that do dumb things, like there are in all religions and all walk of life. And also, just because a person says they are a Christian, if you really can't tell that they are, then their probably not. But the worst thing is you can be the best person ever, and if you die without knowing Jesus you will not go to Heaven. Jesus is the only way.

No, but there are lots of very nice people around who are not going to make it into heaven. These are people who don't sin much and for that reason, don't believe they need a savior. Your "friend" should not have said those things to you. Your "friend" may in fact not be a Christian, although I'm sure she believes she is. The proper response to the information would have been "I'll pray for you."
P.S. A parent who is beating a 140 pound teenager has missed the point. The time for physical discipline is over by age 12 in my opinion.

haha, yeah a big thing christians are known for is hypocrisy. and your story right there is a shining example of it.
i personally believe in God, Jesus and the bible. but i do not go to church or associate myself w/ 'christians' because they all have that holier than thou attitude that i do not agree with.
a person DOES NOT have to be a Christian to be a good person. so many ppl take the words of the bible and twist them into the most absurd notions. really, i dont know how these ppl sleep at night.
don't listen to the girl who tells you your a bad person, shes a hypocritical sheep. all that matters is what you think of you. if your happy with your religion/faith, nothing else matters.
the guy that beats his overweight daughter is not really a Christian. he might say so, and go to church so others will think so. but if he really was a good Christian, he would not do those things.
your honest about what you believe in, and that i think makes you 10 times better than some child beating hypocrite!

Being a christian, wiccan, atheist, etc. does not make you a good person. Being a virgin and abstaining from drinking, smoking, and other drugs does not make you a good person either. Doing these things also does not make you a bad person.
I highly doubt this question is being asked because of 'curiosity' - it seems like its intention is to flamebait.

All Christians are not good people just because they say they are Christian, there is plenty of good in the bad as well as bad in the good. It's like yin and yang. I know plenty who say they are Christian but they act like they are atheist. Because they do not act like they believe in God much less that they believe that Jesus died for their sins.

Some Christians have a superiority complex but you could say that of people in general. I'm not a theist and I wouldn't judge people according to affiliation in any event, whether religious or political or whatever. Most people have no problem with Wiccans. They might think it's a little silly, but that's about it. Even among the Christian denominations,it's really the fringies or fundies who have a problem with Wicca.

Although I am a Buddhist, I believe that Christians can be good people. Christian teachings have several benefits, although as with all humanity, some people are not as open minded and accepting of others. I believe Christianity teaches that sins can be forgiven, but someone who does not accept Jesus as their savior is condemned. Logically, it would seem that any Christian can be forgiven, even for such a sin as beating their child or premarital sex, although any religion is illogical in retrospect, and rather, based on faith. If your friend does not want to accept you for who you are, she herself would not be a good person, in my opinion.

No. Unfortunately there are many people who are very good and are not Christians. I say unfortunately because even though they are great people they are on their way to Hell if they do not accept Jesus.
Also I would say the man who beats his daughter is not a Christian. The Bible tells us we will know them by their fruit. Beating his daughter seems like rotten fruit to me.
