I have a german shepherd who sometimes listens to me. Someone told me that I should learn some commands in German. Is this true?

Only if the dog has already been trained by someone who
speaks German.

I think it really depends on the age. Puppies are easily distracted and usually want to play. If you live in America and got your dog in America there is no sense in learning german commands. If your dog has a favorite toy use that in training keep him motivated and wanting to learn and make sure he gets a good reward (like playing with his toy)

I've heard that too but if you arent ready to take German...Try adding some hand signals to the commands you are already giving him/her. My German Shep/Lab mix listens to the gestures better than verbal commands.

German commands do not change the fact that it sounds like your dog doesn't respect you. Your dog must know that you are the leader of the pack.
