I just got a puppy and he has ticks, due to the fact he was left outside. I have found a few ticks on him but one in particular has almost completely buried itself in his skin. How do i get it out?

I've put vasoline on it to see if it will back itself out enough for me to get ahold of it.

I have smothered both of them with vasoline and now I can't see to grab either one of them. One is completely submersed itself. Baxter is going to the vet as soon as I can locate one close to me, ASAP.

If you are worried about pulling it out (which is the best) another one is salt water if you live close to the beach take it for dip in salt water otherwise make your own salt water and keep dabbing it on and it will die. True when I got my puppy she was covered in ticks ( got her from north QLD tick country). they were in her ears and everywhere too many to pull out. Salt water worked give it a go.

Well, since you've tried vasoline, that's about all you can do at this point.
Have a bottle of clear nail polish ready for next time and paint the tick with it. Or rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip, though you don't want to get that on the dog's skin.

Get out a pair of tweezers and pull him out as best you can. It is an old wives tail if you don't get the head out that the area will become infected. Not true at all.
I do not recommend any other method. Although, I cannot wait to see some of the recommendations you will be getting on this forum :)
NOTE: Vaseline does not work, that is a myth. And honestly, would you hold up a match to YOUR dog? I wouldn't.
ADD: The only tick that transmits Lymes Diseases is a deer tick. And the tick needs to be attached for 24 hours or more for the bacteria to infect the dog.

Take a cotton ball or something like that put liquid soap or rub the soap so it gets foamy and put it on the cotton ball. Leave the cotton on the tick for like ten mins then it should come out by itself. Then take it out with tweezers, please don't burn the dog with a match. Good luck!

NEVER burn it off!!!! You pull it out - straight out and be sure to take the head with it.

ADD:
Vasoline does not work and only made it slippery and hard to see. Wipe the Vasoline off so you can get a better grip and see what you are doing.

If you want to get it out completely you need to get it to release, and, contrary to what the vet tech that responded, the Vets that I have dealt with in the past would just smear a little vaseline over the tick (ALL over) and let it release, then remove it without any real trauma OR chance of infection. In the field, we have used kerosene or any other petrochemical liquid on the tick's body. They breathe thru the spiracles on their body, so, if you fill these with something like that,...There you are.
