Place the meat in a sealed bag and then put it in a bowl. Place the bowl under cold running water. Do not use warm or hot water. This will destroy the texture of your meat. If you use the microwave, the thaw setting on this still cooks the meat slightly and causes it to toughen when cooked too. The safest, quick way of thawing meat is under cold running water.

I make sure the package is intact, and then place it in a large dish or dishpan of tap water. Individual pieces will thaw in about 45 minutes, while a whole chicken can take a couple hours. I tried thawing mine in the microwave a couple times, but that made a lot of tough, dry spots that cooking could not save - it was enough that almost a third of the chicken was inedible.

All you need to do is place your chicken in a large pot and fill it with room temp. water. Let it sit in the water and then drain the water and refill it about every 10 minutes until it gets thawed out. You will not lose the flavor of the chicken.

You can:
1- cook it from frozen (stick the meat in a stew and cook through- think hamburgers)
2- Thaw in the microwave (the meat must be cooked immediately afterwards) or
3- Put the meat in a pan and thaw under running luke-warm water

put it in the microwave. there should be a button that says thaw. then it will ask u to enter the weight (which should be on the package the meat came in). if you dont know the weight, just guess or keep an eye in it in the microwave to see when it looks thawed. =)
