I'm a Christian and I love Harry Potter. I'm 17 years old [Sorry, I just felt the need to share that. Lol.] and I love the Harry Potter books. I've heard alot of Christians telling me that it's "bad" but honestly, what's so bad about it... I mean, I would NEVER recommend it to kids but for teens and adults I think it's just another good book. I think that as long as you're not getting TOO into it then it's fine. What do you guys think? I'm not obsessed with it I just think that they're interesting.

Yeah I believe I'm strong in my faith and close to God enough that I'll be able to enjoy them, you know? I love God obviously and read the Bible too so that's not an issue.

You guys... Someone totally ruined the last book. "Jesus" or whatever his name is. Mannn... I hadn't read the last one. And he said that Harry dies and resurrects. :[

There seems to be a great constant in today's modern fantasy books. The best fantasy books of the last century were the Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings. These two closely mirror religious and biblical situations. One could make the argument that this is because of how good the biblical situations are, or someone could say that it's because of how inculcated they have been throughout the centuries.

Harry Potter is no different... As I read the last book I found that Harry Potter is without real fault, he is willing to sacrifice himself for his friends and ultimately prospers in doing so. Harry Potter is in my interpretation a mirror of our Lord Jesus Christ. Personally I don't take this as an offense, anyone has the right to write anything they want to. Although I personally enjoyed every minute I spent reading Harry Potter, I must say it's a bit inappropriate in my opinion. However, the church can encourage biblical mirrors such as LOTR or CON simply because their authors were Christians? I think that any book can be read by any person and it will have different meanings and interpretations to each. The Harry Potter is a great series that with encouragement fromt he church could be used as a way to lead youth to Christ.

I agree with you. The books are great. In my opinion, Harry Potter books are popular for the following reasons:
- It's a brilliant fantasy: to imagine a parallel world which has wizards and witches is a thrilling experience. Rowling is able to paint a very vivid picture
- Complex plotting: You could read the first three books in themselves and enjoy them without getting too deep, but by third book you realize that there is such an intense plot at work here. Rowling is an expert at giving out just enough information, and hiding an equal amount to keep you guessing, and speculating
- It has been kept real: It is impossible not to become a part of this universe, as far fetched as it seems. Even in the world of fantasy, the characters are very real. All characters have shades of gray - you find yourself cursing the hero and even feeling sorry for the most evil villian ; each character. is given so much depth. And the situations and problems are real - however fantactically the situations may be portrayed, they are very easy to relate to - they deal with growing up, loss, pain, frienshship, love, apartheid, acceptance; just the kind of issues we deal with, wizarding world or not
- Makes you think: the stories are never preachy, but Rowling successfully manages to touch deeper chords in the readers through her characters. There are profound lessons in morals and ethics - of acceptance and tolerance, I would even say philosophy

I think children should be encouraged to read these books. They inspire intellectual reasoning, make readers introspect into their value system and develop a sense of understanding and tolerance of the world around them. You'd give children too little credit if you think that all they would take out of the books is the interest in indulging in magic.

A lot of Christians just don't get the fact that it is fiction, i mean just because some of the things that happens in the books go against christian religion it is JUST FICTION. I guess some think that it will have a bad influence on kids but i have never met anyone over the age of 12 who actually believes that harry potter is real.

I was in a Christian church's bookshop and saw a book that was something about how Christians don't need to worry about reading Harry Potter, there are still morals to be found blah blah blah. Censorship is a worse evil than a story about kids with sticks (btw I love HP too)

I have fun Christmas and that i'm an Atheist. it quite is in no way suggested if Harry Potter became into Christian or not, by using fact quite, his faith is in no way quite in the books. the reason people say Harry Potter is anti-Christian is by technique of the witchcraft in contact. Lola: you do not could desire to be a Christian to have a God verify. they are in basic terms there to shelter the youngster(ren) if something could desire to ensue to the mothers and fathers.

There's nothing the matter with the Harry Potter books. They're entertaining fiction, and that's all they are. Christians who get all bent out of shape about them need to find something else to obsess about, like "their" President, who has all but ruined this country.

Go in peace and read what you want.

Edit: And here we go with the gay-bashing. Do Christians actually think that if they yell loud enough, gays will vanish from the earth? Get over yourselves. There are some gays who will be going to Heaven before you self-righteous, pompous fools make it through the gate.

It's not bad. Yeah, number 7 isn't as much of a kids book as number 1, but that doesn't make it evil like many people make it out to be. My advice to you is read it if you want to. As long as you enjoy it, and feel comfortable reading it, it's an ok thing.

I'm sorry but I just think it's sorta stupid. It's the idea of protecting the whole to save the few, because if you try to single people out, chances are, you will single out the wrong person, and if you say that you should do something if you know you won't go wrong, then everyone will eventually go lax and just downright forgo the rule. However, when it comes to Harry Potter, I think it's downright stupid, because umm... Jesus practiced magic.... jeeeeeez....

the book is FICTION!!! i think people forget that about alot of literature. it is ridiculous and close minded to say that a book is bad just because it goes against a religion. but in this case, it doesn't even go against a religion. there is nothing wrong with harry potter as long as you don't worship it, and even then, if you want to worship harry potter...go for it.

if you like harry potter, check this out. it's cute and funny:
