As for the irritation, it could be caused by the sharp edges on the corners of the tape. Apply Antibiotic ointment. Cover the wound with gauze, and keep it in place using the surgical tape. When you apply the dressing, you might want to trim off or fold the sharp edges, so they will not irritate your pores.

If you remove them, don't just pull them off. Get a piece of cotton, and moisten it with alcohol or sterile water. Wipe it around the tape, to moisten it gradually, as you peel it off.

This might be a huge pain, but you could try using some gauze with no adhesive. Then secure the gauze by wraping around your shoulder with pre-wrap. I'm not sure if you are familiar, but it's kinda spongy, often yellow, and used by athletes to cover ankles/wrists/whatever before they tape the area. That way tape doesn't touch the skin and won't irritate it. You can get it at an pharmacy, located with other athletic stuff such as athetlic tape and braces. The pre-wrap can be secured by a small piece of tape over the end of the pre-wrap.

That's an allergic reaction. I do the same thing. If you don't need to be wide awake, some benedryl might help (2 pills), but I think I'd cover the tape areas with cortisone 10 and leave them unbandaged.

You need some non allergic tape. You can probably call the Dr.'s office and they can give you some. Or you can try coban, which you can get coban wet. For the irritation I would use neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment.

Hope this helps you some.

All I know is that I'm allergic to surgical tape too. However, I can use BandAids, just not for a long period of time. Use the really large ones. Those should work...
