I read the Gospel of John first, followed Romans. I then read Revelation, Genesis and the Book of Job. I went back and finished the New Testament and have read selected books of the Old Testament. Christian bookstores and probably websites too, have yearlong guides to help you wade through the 66 books in the Bible (not counting the Apocrypha). They are like college syllabuses. Also, get a paraphrased edition of the Bible or something like New International Version. I have a New Jerusalem Bible which is great. It is in English but is directly translated from Hebrew and Greek. Has everything you would ever want to know. Good luck. Also, pray for the gift of the Holy Spirit before you start reading, if you haven't already and then receive it in faith. It will open your eyes to all kinds of spiritual insight, understanding and discernment.

A long journey starts with the first step. Just go to the front where it says: God created the heavens and the earth.
Then Genesis tells the story about Adam and Eve.
From there it is a fascinateing story of survival and challenges. Get a bible that is easy to read. Not a king James bible or you won't understand it when your done.
When you get to a bible book that is boring skip over a few verses. But be careful sometimes hidden in a boring bunch of genology or temple building is other information you will want to read about.

What worked for me was to start with the shorter books first, that way you feel like you have accomplished more. you could probably read a couple of books a day like that. then read the longer ones. Save Revelation till last , it will make more sense after you begin to understand the rest of the Bible.

No one will truly learn everything in one try while reading the Bible. Start with the New Testament first and then read the Old Testament.
You will get something new out of the Bible each time you read it.

Start with a topic that interests you. The history of Israel? Start with the Torah. Prophecy? I started with Revelation then Daniel followed by the prophets. But that's a tough road. Salvation story? 1st John followed by the Gospels, then the rest of the NT followed by Psalms, Proverbs, and the inspired literature. I'd stay away from the long boring lists until you have an actual reason to read them. BY all means, feel free to skip around. Termites don't start at one end and work their way through a 2x4, why should you? Just keep eating. Er. READING.

The Gospels first, then Revelation, both Samuels, Esther, and Nehemiah. Daniel's good too. Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs are interesting, as they have a lot of philosophy in them. But definitely start with the Gospels.
That is where it talks about Jesus who is the foundation of Christianity. The two Samuel talks about David and Solomon. Esther is almost like an ancient soap opera, with all of the lies and such, but it still has a lot to do with the religion. Daniel and Revelation are both about the apocalypse. You should read them back to back.
Some of exodus and Leviticus would be good too.
DON'T READ ALL OF GENESIS. Unless you REALLY like genealogy, don't. All you need are the little things like Adam and Eve, Noah, Sodom and Gammorah and The Tower of Babel.

You will, it comes easy after you start. Best place to start is the beginning, Genesis 1:1. Read as long as you wish, then mark your place, and began from there the next day. Won't be long, until you reach the end, and will be amazed at what you found out about yourself, your family, your religion, and your friends. The Bible is in Harmony with it's self and very interesting, and TRUE.

First of all, get a translation that is easier to follow. I found the New International Version to be best for me. When I read the bible through, I started right at the beginning with Genesis. I found this wonderful story that unfolded about a God loving a very "stiff-necked" and "rebellious" people and the people who loved him back. Always ask God for his Spirit to guide you in your reading of the bible. God Bless

You will never learn everything in it. You are not supposed to. Only Jesus understands everything. He was the only perfect man and they crucified him. Just read it and Pray. And do what is says no matter what the consequences, and you will have treasures in Heaven. I love to read the Gospel of John and the Book of Romans, its a good guide for telling others about Jesus. God bless you and may the blessings of Numbers 6:24 thru 26 comfort you. Amen
