In the Judeo-Christian religions god is almost desperate for people to believe in him. The Bible and Qur’an are full of threats and tortures that will be heaped upon unbelievers. So, why is god so insane to get people to believe in him? What does he gain from that, and why does he crave it so much? I don't think it's for our benefit.

God is like every fairy tale character. If people stop believing in them, they die.

i think the idea is that he wants us to believe in him so we can go to heaven. People who don't believe in him don't go to heaven, and as he loves us he doesn't want this to happen
however, he still gives us the free will and choice to find and love him or not because if he makes us all automatically love him, then is that true love? Not to mention, if you were pregnant and knew that your baby would grow up to dislike you you, would you abort the baby?
It's the idea of God maybe not acting compassionately, but for a better long time good?
Those are some of the ideas i've heard anyway

It is similar to if you had a child who was living a life that was going to do harm to the child. Because you love, you would go out of your way to turn the child around, and see a better way. If God did not love His creation or man, we would never have a spiritual sense of things, or a knowledge of Christ. God's ideas must understand Him and be perfect forever.

Dont humans wish to tell others they know when they accomplish some thing very big like winning a Noble Prize or winning a Gold Medal.
Why shouldn't God wish to be known by humans for whom He created this beautiful planet that sustains life for all living things on it. God has created Sun, Oceans, Oxygen, Mountains, Moon, Rain, Day, Night, four Wealthers and a round Planet on which we live. Suppose God eliminates one of these things I have listed, will life be possible on earth.
We never think and take it for granted, the life God has given and self sustaining system to keep life going on for we don't know how long.
He is all by Himself with no family no relatives, no one like Him. Why shouldn't he expect we humans to know Him, and appreciate and thank for all He has created for us.
Why it is wrong if he expects humans to glorify Him, when all
living things on and between this planet and heavens glorify God all the times. We humans are the ones who don't because we don't know Him. Even if we know, we revolt like the Athiests you see how they ridicule God, don't thank and appreciate God because God gave humans Free Will to see how many will thank and appreciate and love Him and how many will murder innocent, plunder resources of others and do every thing opposite to what God teaches us through His Divine Revelations and His Messnegers who taught us all what God wants us to do and stay away from wrong doings.
This life is a test of we humans to see who will obey God and who will rebel against Him. This is a selection process God has devised by giving us life and dealth to find the best amongsts us, may be for some higher purpose for us in the next life in Jannah.
Hope you learn something today, Hope I atleast made you think about something today. Hope you realized today that you should thank God for all he created for us. Nothing becomes by itself if some one has to build. I can dump cement, steel rods, concret and every thing else that is required to build a house. Will all these things get up and join by themselves without any humans to work and build the house?
Well you have already heard these arguments, you already have figured out answers for this and you continue refusing to admit that God exists.
May God help you. May your brain work right way to make you realize and understand the facts of life and about the creator of your life.

Think of it this way. You are God, you created the sun, the earth, the moon, the stars, humanity, the ENTIRE UNIVERSE! You'd want some credit for that right?

It's not a "him" (in my opinion).
God is Love.
It doesn't care if you believe in It or not.
It doesn't really care about anything.
It's a power. The Power of LOVE.
I think fear based religion is yucky - but some people need it/like it/want it. That is their choice.

He doesn't need us to believe in him. If we don't praise him the rocks will cry out! :)
I believe in him because I choose to. I believe in him because of the things he has done in my life that I know where his hand.
