I know it's an idle offer that I can't really deliver. I am against the war in Iraq. But I would gladly take a bullet for any allied troop serving in Iraq, especially my own Americans. And I also know I would do it for any Iraqi child. Iraqi adults on the basis of knowing them a little. But, I can't deliver on the offer, so when I speak out against the war, I am doing what I can and from my heart. As a Viet Nam Vet I have some concept of what our and allied troops are going through now. Furthermore, I think I have insight on how it may affect you 20 to 40 years after. Never think that being against the war is against you. I just don't like lives cut short, our side, enemy or civilian. Were it me running for president my platform would be, if elected, I would vacate my office as president and assume my role as commander in chief serving on the front in Iraq. I suppose a shot at glory as it would be the first time a Head of State did that since Napoleon.

For all those who have replied yes and honest in your answer. You show your heart is in the right place.

For me, I'added I would take a bullet for an Iraqi child too. The respondant asking why? Because it's a child with their whole life ahead. And neither did I reference age. How could a 2 year old be guilty of anything? That is why I would offer my own life. And for aqll, I am old enough I would not be giving up that much. Actually, my only thought of taking a bullet would be, please make it quick. Would I take a roadside mine for any and get my limbs blown off for them? I'm not going to lie. The answer ther is NO! Sorry, I am too much a coward for that and it is among my greatest of fears qand has been since I was 18.

smsmith:: Great words in so few. I too am still bound by the same oath though I took it 43 years ago. I was Army and just guessing, but I imagine something similar when long retired still call themselves Marines. I think the same oath should be taken by all citizens as an oath of loyalty.

To you, and those who served and are serving. I give you my utmost gratitude. I do understand what you have done for us. It is truly courageous (with the exceptions for a few of those who enlisted just to experience killing and torturing people).

You have risked everything to protect the country and people. I am sure you have seen things that ordinary citizens have not seen and to you 'genghis' especially. I commend your stance of opposing the war.

To answer your question, I have to truthfully answer NO. At this point in life, I lack the courage to have my life ended, or a limb amputated. If you mean a bullet at some non-lethal area to exchange for a good soldier's life. Then I would say yes. But I feel like a hypocrite for saying that because when facing the barrel of a gun, I really don't know how to react....

Truthful words... Thank you.

Call me old fashioned, but I would take more than a bullet for anyone serving in Iraq; I would give my life for my country, and to benefit my countrymen and women in service. You can take a bullet now-a-days buying a gallon of milk at 7-11...or just by walking your dog down the wrong street. For those crying into the towels of "political oppression" try living in Iraq under the Saddam, or Afghanistan under the Taliban. They killed innocent people daily...raped women daily...it is the call of every American to come to the aid of the oppressed, the afflicted and the innocent...at any given time, in any given country...that's who we are. I was in Desert Storm...yawn...I was in other parts of the world...yawn...my military life is over...but I can d*mn sure support our troops overseas now, in harm's way...so taking the long way around your question sir, yes...I would take a bullet for our Troops in Iraq or Afghanistan!!
PS Thank you for your service to our country during Vietnam...you are amongst my heroes!! {{SALUTE}}

It would be nice if more people thought like you did. I understand people being against the war, but what I don't understand is the people who are against our military men and women over there fighting for them. They are just doing there job. Be against the war fine, but support them God knows they need it. I would gladly take a bullet for one of them, because isn't that what they are doing for us? I would love to see all of our people home and safe, but until that day comes I will stand beside and do everything I can to show my love and support for the people who have to be over there in that war.

if I was asked if you take one bullet in your body the war will stop then yes, I heard this crazy thing that makes me answer NO! that America can only function if there is a war going on and if there isn't then a reason will be created to start one, that it is a money thing, that made me think my life is worth more than money in some ones pocket, so my prayers is all I can offer and emotional support to those who need it.

I would, haha, and I did too.
I would gladly take another bullet for one of my American Mates over there.
back before my company deployed me to Africa I was in Iraq, we were in an assault group when we noticed some US Army blokes taking heavy fire. we jumped out and helped return. one of the Americans was hit close to me, I picked him up and carried him to their vehicle. When I turned around It felt like somone hiting me with a hammer in my abdomen,
lucky for me it hit my strike plate. Took me a minute to get my senses about me

I don't think anybody should be taking bullets in Iraq. I think about our soldiers all the time and I really hope they all return soon. This is a war that never should of taken place. If you want to do your part please vote this election and help us restore our country's image and bring all those brave soldiers home.
