It all depends on the type of plant, some plants flourish in sunlight, others die in sunlight.
Make sure you always provide sunlight for all of your plants, but not always direct sunlight which causes them to die.

Regular sun provides the energy the plants need to grow.
The artificial light will stimulate the plant, but it won't be getting its sunlight nutrients, thereby stunting its growth.
No light will either keep plants from blooming or kill them.
