i just moved from texas to washington state. i had to leave my dog behind because i am living with people who would not allow me to bring it (in-laws)... anyway... we are finally able to move into our place and i want to bring my dog, cookie, up here... i miss her sooo much... how can i ship her to washington without it costing a fortune? how can i ship her to me without having to be on the plane with her? thanks for the help!

Try contacting an animal rescue organization; they often have contacts with volunteers who move dogs around the country. Offer then a few hundred dollars - they need the money badly, there is often room for one more, and it is less then shipping (a win/win deal). Otherwise, the cheapest way is to fly there and bring him back as excess baggage (fee varies per airline). Without you there, it is a large risk unless you use a pet shipper and those flights are costly.

She would need a certificate of health and would likely ride on a plane in cargo. I hear this is very stressful for a dog. There are services that will ship her with someone to watch her. Depending on her size, she may be able to fly in the cabin.
Good luck! I don't know what I would do without my dog!

The next time you have any friends/family coming up from Texas you should ask them to take her with them. You don't want your dog in stranger's hands and want someone you can trust to bring her to you. The holidays are coming up so I'm sure you'll maybe be back in Texas. I think you would have better closure if you were on the plane with her.

Check into courier services. Or hire a vet student on holiday from college who wants a road trip to pick up your baby!
