Is it possible to get a hotel in Downtown, Toronto for a couple who's under 18 yrs of age? They are both 16 yrs old, and are currently dating. They told me that they are not planning to stay there over night, they just want to have some time alone with nobody interrupting them. Both of them just want to stay during the day, and will leave after dinner.

It depends on the hotel. For liability issues most hotels want at least one adult over 18, providing a major credit card as security at check in.

I'd say they'd be risking it at best. Any reputable hotel will demand proof of ID; any seedy one has its own dangers. Even then, it would totally depend on the concierge at the front desk. They might be able to get away with it if they lie. But frankly, if they're going there for a few hours...well...it's kind of obvious what they're using it for, and I doubt most hotels would allow that. You'd have to find someone who didn't care about any legal action, and that's risky. I really wouldn't recommend it - nor would I recommend doing anything at all while they're under 18. Waiting a year won't kill you!

ummm, are you sure that's safe? a bunch of guys and a bunch of girls, all possibly irresponsible, getting drunk? ok so clearly a random person advising u over the internet is not gonna change ur mind about going, so im just gonna say that u should watch ur drink, make sure no one is staying away from a certain drink, have a morning after pill readily available, just in case things get too crazy, and have someone you can call, regardless of the time, just in case something happens and you need to get out. I know it seems like an overreaction, but you never know how people are when they're drunk. And unless its exclusive, anyone can text someone to come, and people you cant trust might show up, so seriously, dont drink too much. Ever heard of date rape? be carefullll! oh, and for the first bunch of questions, yes its illegal and you can get busted. the rules are, you need to be at least 18 and have your own credit card to check in and for some places you need to be 21. Getting caught will get you busted for underage drinking so be careful. And about the fun, ny kind of drinking game, but make sure to either have a limit or just not such strong drinks. If anyone disagrees and you cant get them to change thier mind, pretend to sip ur drink,. hopefully theyll be too drunk to notice. And any kind of strip games, the limit being underwear and bras. have fun, dont get raped, dont get alcohol poisoning, or an std, or preggers...

I don't care what they told you, think about it. What could they possibly want with a hotel room?

Bad idea, bad BAD idea.

Plus, hotels don't like to rent to anybody under 21 because they are liable if a minor does anything illegal when there (that includes underage sex). At least, that's the law in Oregon.

You really need to talk to your friends about this and stop helping them sneak behind their parents' backs.

Not that I know of. I think it has to do with the fact that they are minors and can not enter into contracts. Getting a hotel room is, in part, signing into a contract to be a decent human being and not burn the hotel down.

It would be a huge liability to them. Also, most want a credit card in case of costs incurred during the stay.

No smart hotel would rent to minors, as they might be accused of contributing to said minors' delinquency. The liability issues are just too great.

Nope...you have to be 18...well, Toronto, Canada? umm....US rules are different than Canadian, but I've rented a hotel up there for my 19th birthday, I think you have to be 18 there too

Time alone? They can get time alone without getting a hotel room. Don't be so gullible. Be a responsible parent.
