... will Jr blow up before people start to wonder if it's the driver and not the equipment?

Ok, using Jr hater logic going from 2 engine related DNF's to 7 in the course of a year is the driver's fault. How many races this year has more than one DEI or DEI/RCR engines gone up in smoke during a race, quite a few I believe. Truex I believe's gone through at least 2 engines. Think about it at Fontana in Feburary, Truex blew one after 75 laps, in fact only Menard finished that race. And sorry after the Talladega debacle, you know 4 of 7 motors (Jr,Truex, Burton, and Amirola) blowing, and a 5th (Harvick) running on 7 cylinders that points to one thing a crappy engine dept.
Ok here's the break down on DEI/RCR's engine woes
Jr.-7 engines
Truex-3 engines
Menard-1 engine and 1 oil pump failure
Jeff Burton-1 engine
Aric Amirola-1 engine
Mark Martin- 1 oil pump failure
Kevin Harvick-1 valve guide failure
So this adds up to 13 blown engines, 2 failed oil pumps, and a car running on 7 cylinders, sorry folks that's crappy engine building, not the driver.
Clint L it's not a conspiracy theory when the numbers indicate that for the most part the engines are crap.

Let me expound on the points made by Wedge.

In the last 68 races, HMS has lost 5 engines.

Four of those came in 2006. Most of the engines lost were by Johnson and Gordon. Following some logic found here, that would make Gordon and Johnson the crappiest drivers at HMS.

Using the logic espoused in the question the following question begs the asking.

How many engines does Gordon not have to lose before people start to wonder if it's the driver or the equipment winning races?

The answer to both questions is equipment.

Let's see if got this. 43 cars every weekend, but Dale is the only one having constant engine trouble. None of his teammates are. Now, if the driver is not doing it, which he has admitted to, then someone on the team is deliberately sabotaging the car. Not impossible, just difficult. For the same car to have that much engine trouble in one season is unheard of nowadays. The thing I don't know is if it's an electrical problem or a mechanical one. Personally, I can believe a disgruntled mechanic, as far out as that could sound. OH, and no wins in two years does not mean Dale can drive anything. He has lots of trouble fading away at the end of races if you pay attention. Rev limiter or not, I could blow that engine sky high if I want to. There's more than one way to kill an engine.

These engines have a rev limiter, the only way a driver can over rev them is down shifting on a road course.

A Nascar driver can abuse their tires, brakes and their sheet metal but not the engine.

Engines are abused by engineers who use too low of a gear or a camshaft lobe that is too unstable for reliable valve spring operation. This is often done when their performance level is eclipsed by the competition.

The answer will come next year for those who think drivers blow engines, this isn't the days of thunder.

Most of the drivers have been through it. Didn't you hear Hendricks a few days ago when he said it's amazing that a couple years ago they were blowing engines and no one remembers.
It's probably a little of both.

I guess I will go against the grain and stir it up. A driver can blow an engine because of the driving style. Missed shifts and not feathering back into the throttle but stomping it to the floor will cause the drive train to snatch and jerk--do this enough times and oil pump belts will tear off and cause oil deprivation in the engine causing things to overheat and break. Seen it done many many times 32 years of driving Sportsman Class Stock Cars and Late Models. Engines are machines they break down under Normal usage let alon Misuse. NOT SAYING JR. IS ALWAYS AT FAULT BUT HE HAS ADMITTED TO THE MISSED SHIFTS IT CAN AND DOES HAPPEN!!!!

Its not Jr....look at that race when RCR and DEI engines blew..So its not just Jr....It crappy, junky, awful DEI crap engines. I'm sick of it....Its not the driver..get over it...Wait till next yr, then you will see. If it were me I'd be ranting/cussing more Smoke would if it were his engines blowing..But Jr is being cool about this with the interviews...But on Trackpass, I certainly understand how he feels about this mess..

Go Dale Jr & HMS in 2008.

Hundreds and hundreds. It is not Jr. so get over it. Jr. can drive just about anything in any situation, as long as it is running! Wait til next year, you will see the difference.

Go Jr.>>>>
