moms 89 and dads94, theyve both been told by their neurosurgeon no more driving theyve had this surgery within the past 6 months.now heres the problem,my brother who is also a doctor has told my parents that he sees no reason why my parents cannot drive,so he told them to go ahead and drive,my mother is all over the road,makes wide turns and her speeds fluctuate from 20 mph and 50 mph in spurts,and my father gets confused and often gets lost,i go with the neurosurgeon and say "no driving" im refusing to get into the car with either of my parents,am i right in this action? there are some people that are ready to jump down my throat because they think im stupid for doing this.

I wouldn't either. Maybe that neurosurgeon could call your brother and explain. I wish he had left it alone, they are too old to drive anyway............xx

You are right. Stay out of the car when they're driving. Until the laws about elderly drivers change, I guess all we can do is pray that they don't kill themselves or anyone else.

It is time to for them to give up this priveledge. I had to help my dad make that decision and it was hard, but the doctor helped me. You need to be a part of that too. Remind them of their doctor's orders. Don't feel like it is your fault. Offer to drive them when you can.

i agree with you totally and i don't think it's right that your brother is overriding your parents' trust in their physician. just because he's a doctor doesn't mean he's seen all of their information and if you've seen personally that they're driving is terrible then you're absolutely right to refuse to ride with them. i think your relatives don't want to admit what's going on because then they have to face that your parents' health isn't what it used to be.

Take their keys or take the battery. When their minds are right again, they will laugh at their horrible driving and your stealing to keep them safe, and they will appreciate you.
