Usually the county has a mental health program that works on a sliding scale depending on income. She should check this out.

I don't doubt your friends depression or your concern but speaking from personal experience if he really in teds to end his life now then he would keep it to himself so that he would not be stopped. This sounds like a cry for help and should be taking just as seriously as an suicide attempt as often when cry outs are not responded to the person gets into an even deeper depression. Depending on how old you are you should do the following. If you are teenagers tell his parents and a school councilor If you are adults call a doctor right away or even you can take your friend to a doctor or a hospital.

Apparently the people that threaten to commit suicide are the least likely to do it. Hers is more of a cry for help. Buy her a couple of great books, maybe something by Louise Hay or even Tony Robbins. They will help a lot. She can also call the samaritans for free and most doctors surgeries will get you in touch with counsellors, but you never know who you are going to get....
Good luck

There are lots of options out there for help. If you friend has no insurance that will pay for a mental health professional to see her, then she (or you) should look into free or low cost care in your area. Check with the hospitals and see what she would need to do.

Phone a free helpline such as The Samaritans? Look in phone directory under counseling. This is a UK organisation. If you're in the US then try The Helpline:
