I would like to start planning a vacation to Australia in 2009. However, I know absolutely nothing about Australia. We would like to go for about two weeks to see the best of what Australia has to offer. What cities should we stay in. Give me whatever information you have. I can use anything... Also I what time of the year would be the best to go...

Hi,

If your planning to visit Australia best time to come is at anytime of the year. If you like the summer then come in Dec - March and if you like winter come in the middle of the year and if you like spring come to Australia in September and October.

There is so much to see and do in Australia and you won't be able to see everything in two weeks. You need at least a month or two to cover yourself to see everything.

On the west coast of Australia is Western Australia which has Perth, Broome, Fremantle and other areas. Which are all great places to visit.

Then there's Northern Territory which has Darwin as the capital then Alice Springs where Uluru (The Rock), Kakadu National Park. Best time to go to Northern Territory is during the dry season which is from July - September and good time to go is in August as it's not too hot and humid.

Queensland is more tropical weather and great year round. Then there's New South Wales with the state capital Sydney and lots of places to visit in NSW.

Then there's ACT - Australian Capital Territory which lies Canberra the Nations Capital which is a great place to visit (as I live here) and we have a large number of national tourism attractions, national parks, art galleries and a number of other things too. Canberra is also where the Federal Government sits at Parliament House.

Then there's Victoria with Melbourne as the capital and other great destinations around Victoria.

Tasmania the island below Victoria which is great to visit as well with Hobart as the state capital.

Then South Australia with Adelaide the state capital with lots of winearies in the Barrossa Valley and lots of festivals and events on in Adelaide and the rest of the state.

There's so much to see and do in Australia as it's a big country and you need more then two weeks to see most things.

The best place to visit is Canberra - The Nations Capital which lies between Sydney and Melbourne. Three hours from Sydney and eight hours from Melbourne by car and two to three hours to the coast.

I have provided some links to each tourism website for each state and territory of Australia so you can get some more information from there.

I have also included a link to Tourism Australia which has a website which covers all over Australia and probably has the most information about Australia or you can visit each of the state and territories tourism websites as well.

Hope this helps you with your question.

Thank you

From Clint

There is a fair amount of info contained within the travel section of the Yahoo Aus/NZ News Messageboards.

Try for starters -

Two weeks isnt really enough time to do more than barely scratch the surface of what Australia has to offer. It's a very large country and travelling between locations can take considerable time.

With only 2 weeks, you might perhaps squeeze in the highlights of the east coast...perhaps the theme parks and Barrier Reef in QLD, a quick look around Sydney, Melbourne, and perhaps down to Tasmania.

I hope the above is of some help to you and wish you all the best for your trip DownUnder!

Cheers :)

Australia is a BIG country - as big as continental USA.
There is so much to do and see and to know before you come here.

A bit of internet search and some reading would help. It is hard to give you "anything" here in Y!A - there is so much to tell. There are so many places to go and the weather and climate can vary greatly from northt to south and the different times of the year.

think of some specific topics and ask them again in Y!A For example: Flight time, currency, culture differences, how much $$ for XXX week stay, visa requirement, where to go for what interest you - eg beaches, mountains, tropical, desert, city , rural.

there is so much to tell. Ask away.

Cheers

homestead @Karl...you sir and an absolute wanker. all of your solutions are for questions about Australia and all of those solutions and bagging Australia. in case you dont like it the following f**ok off and once you've been the following yet dont stay the following why spend a lot time answering as many questions at the position you could to attempt to furnish this position a foul call. bypass again for your hollow. it is my u . s . a . and that i like it. It says a lot about someone who contains Australia and easily has undesirable studies and thoughts to inform. Us Australians have in-built d**khead detectors so in case you dont like our u . s . a . and or way of existence then move slowly again lower than inspite of rock it truly is you originated from.

You have plenty of time. Might I suggest you read something about Australia first. An excellent book to whet your appetite and give you some ideas is "Down Under" by Bill Bryson.

Come in January or February. Stinking hot.

Two weeks, go to Queensland see the Gold Coast, do Alice Springs for a couple of days in the Northern Territory, check out Darwin, shoot down to Tasmania for a couple of days and Maybe stop off in Melbourne for a couple. That should cover you.
