iknow i'm not taking a healthy approach, but the weight i've gained from starting college has made me REALLY upset, and i just want to lose it. i'm eating maybe 600 calories a day. i eat a small bowl of salad with fat free dressing, coffee with skim milk and sweet'n low, and for dinner two plain eggs with a whole grain english muffin(100cal and 2 grams fiber). i exersize for a half an hour each day and try to drink at least one water bottle a day. this has been my diet plan for a little over a week now and i've only lost five pounds. i feel like i'm barely eating, i'm exersizing, and i'm drinking water, shouldn't i be losing more weight? i desperatly want to lose AT LEAST 10 lb. help :(

you answered your own question, you are consuming 600 calories a day.
if you are a human being and consume less calories than "your" BMR requires your metabolism will slow and fat loss will halt. this is one of the most basic biological functions. stored fat is the most efficient energy source so the body saves that for last after all of the stored glucose (glycogen) and most of the stored proteins found in muscle mass are utilized.
* if you lost weight the right way you would find out how easy it can be. starving the body has never worked for fat loss and it never will...

Over the past 12 months I have lost 60 lbs, it would have been more if I hadn't added so much muscle mass, but the #1 key was eating more often. You need to at least 100 calories every 3 hours to keep your metabolism burning.
Here is my typical day:
Morning - fruit smoothie with half a banana, 4 -5 strawberries, protein powder, apple juice
3 hours later - Special K bar (90 calories)
3 hours later - either a Breakstone cottage cheese mix (120 calories) or 2 packages of oatmeal (around 200 calories)
3 hours later - a sensible dinner
3 hours later - repeat of the smoothie
No food for at least 2 hours before bed.
The way your are doing it, you're burning muscle, and not fat, which is not good. You just need to change your eating habits a bit:)

Drink more water. Also, it's not how much you eat, but how often. Try eating a few more times a day. I'd recommend 100% whole wheat toast for breakfast, a piece of fruit for a midmorning snack, a side salad for lunch, a cup of yogurt for an afternoon snack, and something lite for dinner. This way you're not starving, and you're boosting your metabolism, which is what helps you burn calories.
5 pounds in a week is quite a bit. Ideally, you should only lose between 2-3 pounds.

Losing 5Ib in one week is ALOT of weight to lose... Losing weight doesn't happen overnight and it is dangerous to try and lose weight too quickly.
If I were you, I would eat more food especially fruit and veg - most of them are low in calories (exept banana's) due to their high water content, yet they are very good and will help keep your vitamins and minerals up.
Don't stave yourself, if you feel hungry then eat, but just don't eat high calorie fatty foods like chips, etc. and you will be OK. If you feel hunry and want a snack between meals, then grab an apple and a low fat yogurt or something.
Increasing your exercise will also help lose weight and increase muscle.

I have found the two best calorie burners are walking or riding a bike. Walk two miles a day and you will see a difference in two weeks. I ride a bike 4-6 miles, 4 days a week and that works as well. Good luck

600 calories a day is not nearly enough! You are becoming anorexic. You can't expect much results in 1 week either. You need to be eating more calories (healthy calories though), and continue exercising, and you will lose weight. What you are doing is unhealthy.

If you watch the weight loss shows on television, you will see that five pounds in a week is pretty average and good for those who change their diets and exercise quite a lot.

You should only be losing about 2 pounds a week - Any more than that and you will be doing damage to your body. You need to mix up your diet too.

You need at least 1200 calories a day...any lower than that and your body goes into starvation mode...no wonder you're not losing any weight...its trying to keep anything and everything that goes in!
