ps3
i own a ps3 and have never had any problems my friends has a permium 360 and he just sent his in to microsoft because of the "red ring of death", that is not the first time he had a problem, another time he had to send it in because it would not start up at all it would be like for a computer the mother board crashing. i have had my ps3 since christmas and he got his 360 christmas also.
even tho ps3 is much more reliable 360 has a much larger game selection and in my opinion no game can beat gears of war which is a 360 exclusive. ps3 has better graphics and game play.
the ps3 being blueray lets the games be much more detailed and larger files. for the new gta (grand theft auto) for the 360 the map is the same size as the old gta, but for the ps3 since they have blueray disks the mape is 4 times the size! nowjust think how good games can be with the disks being capable of holding up to 60gb! normal dvd's can only hold 4.
when i play the same games on the ps3 and 360 i can not tell a difference really only sometimes, but it also depends on the tv, i still think the ps3 has slighty better graphics thought it is just not being used to its full potential.
over all i think you should by the ps30 and the 60gb ps3 has built in wireless and if you want wireless on the 360 you have to buy an expensive component, and on the ps3 you can browse the internet and internet is free.

The PS3 is very reliable. I've had mine for a little over 10 months and I haven't had any problems. The Xbox 360 is just too faulty of a game console to even consider buying.
Plus with the PS3, you get every thing you will ever need built in: Bluetooth, Digital Camera Memory Card Slots, Built in WiFi, the Blu-Ray player, and a web browser. If you were to purchase everything separately for the Xbox 360 to allow it to do what the PS3 can do, you would have spent more money than if you would have just boght the 80GB PS3 to begin with.
Just go with the PS3, when Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Haze, Uncharted Drakes Fortune and other awesome PS3 exclusives come out you will want to have a PS3, trust me!

since you said gameplay, you definetly want the ps3. ps3 games are produced on blu-ray disc which can hold up to 50gb of data. this means longer gameplays. xbox uses dvd which can only hold 8.5gb. you would beat the game for xbox in 3 hours. also graphics are going to be better on ps3 by next year because the developers will get used to the system and the blu ray has extra space so they can put in better HD graphics.
ps3 is better because...
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)
- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $399
(elite)- $479
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

360, PS3 simply cannot compete with its game selection at this time. Plus, numerous sites (can't recall the names, search digg) have shown that some 360 versions of games look better than the PS3 version. Problem is the difficulty associated with Sony's SDK, apparently.
