I have bred and owned chihuahua's and the female is a better choice. They tend to be hard to housebreak and boys will pee all over everything even if you think they're housebroken. I don't think there is really such a thing as a teacup, there are just some that are smaller and some that are bigger. People like to say that though but I think if you research you'll see that there's really no difference. Just go for the one you think is cute, but go for the female. Smooches is a great name. Mine is named Minnie (short for Miniature) and her full name is Miniature Tulip

If yo check about the chihuahua breed you will find that there is no such thing as teacup or for that matter toy or mminiture.
Chihuahuas are uin the toy breed standard says up to 6 pounds this means anything under 6 pound a 1 or 2 pound is not a teacup but just the smaller range.
People sell them as teacup to make extra money. Also often these pups are runts that have or develop very serious health problems. Often these so called teacup pups often don't live past 7 years as due to the health problem.
For a pet I myself have found girls to be better. Do realize they do like a lot of attention and can be spiteful and hard to train if you are not home and aren't firm withthe training. Also relalize they are a breed that need to be socialized or they can become fear biters and can be yappy dogs if not trained at a young age.

If you have not seen the chihuahua , how do you name it? I think a person should find the puppy they want, then figure out a name. Also do you ahve other pets? That would help you decide whether to get a boy or a girl. . Some other things you should consider before getting a chi is where you live, , and how much time you can spend with a chi.Chihuahuas are very loving and needs alot of attention. they can get real onery if left alone alot.. I raise chi's so do some research on the breed before purchasing. Also there is no actual teacups, that is usually the smallest one in the litter . Also you need to think about the price you want to pay, and some of the health issues , that the smallest pup or any chi can get.

Teacups are not inbred runts but they are in fact sickly runts that often have health problems down the line. On the bright side, chihuahua's are a naturally small breed! I think you should get a girl but girls are more expensive than boys so if money is a problem consider getting a boy.
But the best thing you could do is adopt! Adopting is saving a life and giving a home to a poor animal who only wants a warm home and a loving touch.
I do have to say though..I don't like the name Smooches. I would reconsider the name ;]
Hope you find what you're looking for!!!

Well, there are no teacups. They are just a toy breed, meaning they are small. Even a 6 lb chi is very small. As far as boy versus girl. I can't tell the difference in personalities between the sexes. I will say that my sweetest ones are female, but the females will sometimes fight for the alpha female position while the males usually work it out much calmer. The sweetest chihuahua or any dog for that matter anywhere would be a tiny 3 lb chihuahua I have named Skeeter. She absilutely loves everyone and will roll over onto her back and beg for bellyrubs from everyone. Everyone loves her because of her personality. Any chihuahua can be a wonderful pet if it came from good breeding and is raised right.

I would recommend regular, and a male. Gender is up to personal preference, but teacups are more expensive and much more fragile.
Whichever you choose, please get the dog from a breeder and NOT a pet store. I can list probably 1000 pet store nightmares I've heard of, but the most related story is how my cousin got her dog from a pet store. It was supposed to be a healthy female chihuahua, but she ended up with a very sick puppy with a cherry eye, a tilted vulva (so she can't breed her) and she got an upper respiratory infection. When the dog got a little bigger, she began to look much more like a rat terrier than a chihuahua. When she complained, the pet store offered to trade the dog for a different dog, but would not pay for the vet bills or refund any of her money.

i think that a girl would be easier to raise they are also easy to potty train especially if u don't have time to walk in the winter. Sometimes it's too cold. i think that normal and teacup are both great, but my dads friend had teacups and they got really sick so i would get normal. What about long or short haired?

Regular. Tea Cups are inbred runts.
Do not by from a pet store because they sell diseased dogs from puppy mills.
Females are easier to house train.
Are you 100% sure you know what to expect with a Chihuahua?
Are you getting one just because celebrities like Paris Hilton carry them around?
You should visit http://www.petfinder.com/ and see if there is a Chihuahua up for adoption in your area.

Teacups are inbred runts of the litter. No doubt full of medical problems and bills. Never ever buy from a pet store as they're from puppy mills, where they're bred in atrocious conditions.
I don't understand the attraction of them. They're so aggressive and scared of everything that moves.
