3. The Thrilla in Manilla: Ali and Frazier almost fought to the death in their third and final fight. Frazier fought a spirited battle but Ali was just too much down the stretch and stopped Joe in 14 brutal rounds. I don't think either guy was ever the same afterwards.

2. The 1st Liston fight: Ali (then Cassius Clay) was young, fast, and smart and gave the menacing Sonny Liston a one-sided boxing lesson, stopping him in 7 rounds in a fight that really put him on the road to greatness.

1. The Rumble in the Jungle: Foreman was an unbeaten, 25 year old, intimidating, devastating puncher who had slaughtered the two men that beat Ali, Ken Norton and Joe Frazier, so it was only natural that people thought the 32 year old, past his prime Ali would be slaughtered as well, but he suprised everyone and fought the fight of his life and taming the big bad Foreman, taking his best shots and laughing before stopping an exhausted Foreman in 8 rounds.

Only 3?

Tops has to be the win over Foreman. That was impossible, what he did.

Then the first fight against Liston. Nearly impossible, what he did.

Then the third fight against Frazier. The heat plus that little referee preventing Ali from holding really made that fight into something vicious.

The Williams win was his most dominant, perfect fight, but he was a big favorite and should have walloped him. That's why I don't put it into his top 3.

exciting, I once heard him declaring in an interview that he ought to have honestly flattended jack Dempsey, and there is he rated second. and that i have also heard him declaring Rocky Marciano ought to had given him the most hassle out of any fighter, yet then he expenses him seventh. Hmmm... sturdy record tho, should be more suitable suitable with Ali as type a million. exciting to ensure Joe Louis at type 4. scent jealousy? mabye. in simple terms to characteristic, i ought to quite savor the link to the position to procure this record from. thanks. in simple terms to characteristic, a majority of those combatants in to three extend ether throughout or in the previous the 'Ali era'. it dosnt comprise different large heavyweights which emerged later, which comprise Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, or maybe the Klitschkos. Mabye if Ali were to make this record again, given seeing George Foreman's second identify, he would regulate his record slightly. because of the very incontrovertible truth that he has Larry Holmes contained in the record, im presuming this record change into made sometime round 1981-1985, in the previous the Tyson era. in simple terms element that puzzles me if the very truth why Sonny Liston isnt coated on the record. thanks for sharing this record, im a huge Ali fan!

Frazier in Manila was one for the ages, it transcended boxing.

Forman in Zaire was perhaps a bigger upset than Buster Douglas beating Tyson.

Going the distance after Norton broke his jaw in the second round defined a level of toughness that few in history ever possessed.

There are many other aspects of Ali's career that warrent respect, but these three stand out for me.

1. vs. George Foreman in Zaire - Here, Ali was his own man. He defied his corner's instructions and introduced the "Rope-a-Dope" to the whole world. What a master strategist he was!

2. vs. Joe Frazier III in Manila - His "near death" experience proved the man's got heart and tons of courage.

3. vs. Sonny Liston I - Defied the odds and revolutionized the whole fight game with never-before-seen style and quickness of a heavyweight.

1. His fight against Foreman and first fight against Liston were equally astonishing

2. The third fight with Frazier. Those guys had the heart of champions.

3. The Lyle fight. Ali was behind in that fight and probably would have lost. Hurt Lyle and took him out late.
