Gasoline and Deisel engines are, inherenty, inefficiant machines that do not completely burn the fuel being used. In modern cars, devices are built on to, either, trap the polluting substances, or recyle them back to the combustion chamber.
Even these devices do not capture ALL the polluting substances, so the automobile remains one of the major sources of air pollution. It is one of the reasons that so much emphasis is being placed on alternative fuel vehicles, such as electrics, hybrids, natural gas and hydrogen fuel cells.

By burning fossil fuels somewhat inefficiently. Also by creating huge piles of used parts such as tires and batteries that have no use other than to pollute and be buried in land fills. The manufacturing processes in making automobiles is very consuming of energy and as a result contributes to pollution and global warming. But then again if we had as many horses as we did cars, the pollution and global warming would still be out of control. We just have too many people with too much stuff.

Back in the old days (the fifties and sixties), cars were gulping down huge amounts of gas (fossil fuel) that were actually mixed with lead to reduce internal 'knock' when running. The particulates, CO2, NOx, etc, etc. that were pumped into the atmosphere were awful, causing smog and acid rain in densely populated areas like L.A. and Chicago. Now days, the lead is gone, computers measure every drop of fuel that burns in the engine and a catalytic converter removes about 90% of all toxins before it leaves the tailpipe. Pollution levels have actually gone down in almost every large city in the U.S. in the last twenty years. A few years ago, Saab Motor Industries wanted to show-off their new low pollution engine. They brought out an old, pre-emissions Saab, started the engine and connected the tailpipe into the intake of a brand-new Saab 900. The new car actually CLEANED the smokey exhaust from the old car as it exited the engine of the new one. So, don't fret about pollution. It may take time but we can see a pollution-free skyline in our future.

The exhaust fumes that are released chemicalize our air and slowly burn up the o-zone layer. Buses, tractors, and different large automobiles besides as regularly happening vehicles that enable off black smoke are killing our surroundings and taking the oxygen out of our equipment and replacing it with carbon dioxide. all automobiles ought to bypass smog attempt or they're catalyzing the technique. yet now there are vehicles that are more suitable powerful that would help reduce the project. although the previous damage is already executed. with slightly of success that enables
