My mother was a hippie of sorts when I was young so I grew up listening to the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, etc. She became "born again" when I was about 10. The day she got "saved", she took all of those beautiful albums and smashed them up to smithereens with a sledge hammer in our backyard. I cried and begged her to just give them to me but she "rebuked" me. I ran into my room and cried for a long time. I will never forget that. What do you think of this?

I think that as ridiculously stupid as that action was, your mother, in doing so unintentionally imparted to you a unique love and appreciation of classic rock and roll.
And I think that history will ultimately regard rock and roll much more fondly than it will regard religion.

LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL, BABY!

I think it's horrible and a waste of such beautiful music.
But if you think about it, has also served as an example for you, on how important things of that nature can be to children, for you still remember this as a very painful experience, from a different perspective, it might have helped with the way you relate with your own children.
However, that doesn't belittle the screwed up experience you had.

Just like the Taliban

Join the armed forces - come back and bomb her. Take the living room with the full might of an armed division and plant the American flag in her open mouth.

That should teach her what Christianity is really about!

Back in the 70s I had a friend who suffered a sudden conversion and became a JW. Another friend, hearing his tale of how rock music was from Satan, claimed the guy's record collection from the dumpster. The conversion was short lived, though, and he wound up asking for his records back.

I would have been seriously tempted to grab as many as I could and make a run for it. When she rebuked me, I would remind her how much what she is doing is like what happened in nazi germany when they burned the books. I hope your mom has mellowed out some since then.

Given that music was one of the precious few things which helped me survive my less-than-perfect childhood, it pains me to simply *read* what happened to you! *cringe* How terribly traumatic that must have been for a little girl to witness! And couldn't she have at least destroyed these gems when you weren't present, or was that intentional? Man, family can be pretty damn sadistic sometimes.

The important thing, my friend, is that she only destroyed the vinyl, and not your appreciation of the music (I hope). Let's just thank Jeebus that it's mass produced!

It's awful. I reminds me of Hitler burning books. Art is art, and should never be destroyed.

She must be very angry or very brain washed.

I'm so sorry. Breathe deep, sister, it will be OK. I guess some people gat saved just to destroy what was once beloved of them. It doesn't make sense.

If she ever comes to her sense, she will feel awful.

All the best,

All those albums are available on CD.

You can even buy the original records on ebay, probably for a couple thousand $ at most.

So it's really having to deal with a Christian mother that's the problem.
