if you have any sores keep them covered with a clean bandage. wash your hands frequently, I carry a hand sanitizer with me everywhere, and I use it anytime I have to touch a public surface. Good hygiene is all you really need to protect yourself.

Wash your hands! Especially before eating, or after using the restroom. If you need to scratch your eyes or other opening wash your hands before touching them too. Do not share drinks, towels, razors, deodorant, or other items that come into close contact with another person's skin. Staph is spread from skin to skin contact especially at an open wound or another opening of the body such as eyes and nose. Just be careful and keep your hands clean and that should help a lot.

Don't come into direct contact with anyone's open wounds, don't share clothes, or towels in the locker room, or anything like that. Anyone who has the staph infection should keep their wounds covered with a sterile gauze or other type of bandage. If you notice a new sore on yourself, or a boil-like lesion, go to the doctor. They can check it for staph and give you the right antibiotics.

The single most way of preventing infection is washing your hands...AT LEAST 15-20 seconds with good soap and use a lot of friction when washing...dont share gym towels, don't shower barefooted in shared gym showers, etc

Wash your hands frequently. If you don't have access to running water then use any of the various waterless hand sanitiziers on the market. This will do more to prevent the disease than any other measure.

From what I understand, just very good basic hygiene is an excellent preventative. Wash your hands, and make good use of hand gel, and sanitary wipes when you handle things.
