It depends on how mature the boy is.
He may display interests in things you have interest in.
He will avoid eye contact for long time periods, as this shows his true feelings.
He will show discomfort when your near, because he is kept on edge to perform his best when you are around.
To avoid embarrassment, simply ask him if he is interested in you. It takes guts but you will either come out with a new boyfriend or a good friend.

First, the chances are he does fancy you. Being shy when I was younger, I can assure you if some attractive lass smiled at me, or showed any interest, I couldn't look at them directly, or even hold a remotely sane conversation with them! Second, the chances are that even if his mates did know, they wouldn't tell you, so don't worry about what they say (or don't say!) Hope this helps!

I myself am a shy guy (it took me almost 8 months to even tell a girl that I that I liked her, and were together now) so I know the signs. He probably likes you, but if he's really shy then you'll have to make the first move. So start trying to be around him, and talk to him whenever it would be least awkward, you could call him just to say whats up. If he likes you then he should respond by trying to be around you more, and so on. As for you thinking he's out of your league, don't think about that, it'll only make it more difficult to accept it if he likes you, and you'll second guess everything you do around him and make it much more difficult than it needs to be.

Well you just said all the signs!!
But don't worry just like talk to him or something or ask him to walk you home or to a class or something and start talking to him get him to relax and then see how things go.
Don't worry about asking him out if he's never had a girlfriend before either then its not as if hell be expecting anything....so just chill, takes it easy with him. Find out if you really like him and then go for it, your obviously fit so don't worry about getting turned down!

You never really know until you sit in their lap :)! But....if your shy as well it never hurts to just offer to spend some time with them on a semi constant basis. Figure out what he does regularly and just show up there. Nothing beats familiarity for breading familiarity.

If he looks at you a lot, you're golden. He's just waiting for an oppurtunity to talk to you probably. So if he's shy, make it easier for him and just start talking to him. then give him hints that you like him back and that will give him confidence enough to ask you out. good luck!
P.S. don't put yourself down, confidence is attractive. It really is, trust me.

It sounds like he fancies you, but you need to get to know him better first as a friend to make sure, why not get your male Friend to introduce you properly to him and take it from there, get a conversation going, you got nothing to loose, the worse that can happen is that he doesn't bother talking back etc, then its simply his lose, good luck!
