There is no need to panic, going to the dentist isn't fun but it's not that bad. The dentist will rub a cream on the gum surface first and so you won't feel the needle go in, once the needle is in the anesthetic is injected very slowly, you will most likely feel pressure and a slight sting or maybe nothing at all depending on the skill of your dentist. Once you are numb all you will feel is pressure.

Tell your dentist to numb you in stages. Put some gel on the gum. Then added just a drop or 2 to the area let that soak in, then the dentist should be able to get back into the area with minimal discomfort. Tell the dentist that you want him/her to explain the step of what's going on. Also, you might ask the dentist if he/she can prescribe some valium to take before the appointment

Take a few ibuprofen ahead of the appointment.

Doctors numb the area with a gel first, so you will not feel much.

You are going to have to grow up and take it at some point. Better tackle this now than have this fear continue to grow.
