I just have a couple of questions:

1) I heard I have to register my PS3 on the website to enable the warranty, is this true and if so where do I do it ?

2) I was also told that you have to say the date you purchased it, well I got it a couple of days ago, but had to return a swap it for another due to fault, so do I register the date as today's or when I first got it ?

Thanks in advance

1. Yes. You must register your product (like any other consumer product) to activate the warranty. The warranty period begins on the day you purchased the item. To register your product, go to www.playstation3.com, select your country, and then on the page that comes up, at the bottom there is a hyperlink to "register your product."

2. If you returned it and got another system, register THAT system. The registration process includes giving the serial number on the unit. If the serial number doesn't match the registration record if you have to use your warranty, you're out of luck. So, in your case, you would register your most recent PS3 on the day you purchased it.

Bear in mind, warranties are only activated for new systems. If you bought it used, caveat emptor.

I'm not sure if you have to register your PS3 online, but I registered my PS3 plus other things like my Original Playstation, Playstation 2, and games produced by Sony.

I think that all you need is a receipt of the date that you purchased the console for the warranty.

To register the PS3 online go to: www.us.playstation.com
First you have to make a free account and then you find the area where you add new hardware(consoles) and games.

If you phone up sony, all they will ask for is the serial number and the month of which you brought it. Its what i did, and even though my playstation was out of warrenty, sony kindly offered me a refurbished console in replacement. =]
