While most people don't die from Staph infections, it is possible. It really depends on the site of the infection, how severe it is and a person's overall health. Those who are very young, very old, have severe systemic infections, compromised immune systems and/or concurrent health problems are more likely to succomb.

There are several types of Staph bacteria that can cause problems and if you wish to learn more about them, I suggest you do an online search of more than one website and read.

And, yes, wash your hands. A lot.

Washing your hands a lot is EXCELLENT advice. Staph (Staphylococcus Aureus) is a gram positive bacteria that normally lives on the skin or in the nose and mouth. As long as it stays there everything is ok. If there is a break in the skin then an infection can be the result. The scarry bacteria (NOT VIRUS) is the set of Staph known as MRSA or Methacillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. These organisms are extremely resistant to 1st line antibiotics and can indeed cause death. Some of the MRSA strains are even known to produce toxins which increase their lethality.

The staph infection that they are talking about it MRSA. It's a type of staph virus that is immune to pennicillin. Usually people get it and are fine it's just when a person's immune system can't fight it. When people die from it it's because the infection was allowed to progress because the doctor they went to probaly gave them penicillin because they thought it was just a regular staph infection. You really have nothing to worry about unless someone in your school has it and you have an open cut. Most people have MRSA on their skin right now and it's protecting their skin.

Staphylococus are a bacteria that normally live on the skin ( along with millions of other bacteria ). In some circumstances it goes wild in a open wound or scratch. In this case it creates pusy boils etc. It has become very hard to kill because of the everyday use of anti-bacteria items we are unindated with. The bacteria are becomming immune to anti-biotics.
They are telling you to wash your hands a lot because washing sluffs the bacteria off your skin. Washing will also help prevent getting colds.
