I actually was just now feeding our feline buddy Buddha some canned salmon because I was having some. He had some last night, too, but that being the case, I made sure it wasn't very much. He is absolutely crazy about fish, I had to give him a few bites. I tend to be on the safe side that it's okay as a treat, but not as a steady diet all the time. That said, I understand worrying about mercury and other problems, I've heard a lot of opinions about a lot of things about both cats and dogs, but I think if you just use caution and moderation, they'll be fine. I also read someone post that salmon is a little less prone to being exposed to mercury. now, that's just something I read in one place, but it sounded like it made sense. It can be hard to know what to believe if you look through internet searches. I am not a vet, but there has only ever been two years out of my 24 years of life that I haven't had at least one cat, usually more. (That's not me saying I know more than the vet tech here, I'm just saying I've fed a lot of cats.) Just don't make it a replacement for actual pet food, I have given my cats tuna when we're flat out of cat food and they can't wait for someone to get back from the store or we can't get out until the next day or something, but that's only on a very rare occasion. and I even keep an eye on the ingredients in pet food, as well, myself. If you're looking for something you can use more regularly, I'm not a vet or anything, but perhaps chicken would be better than fish? I know this isn't the same animal, but my dog Gabriel is EXTREMELY picky about dry food, so I understand what you're dealing with here. =P

they do indeed contain mercury, and tons of salt as well, as an occasional snack, no big deal, but don't eat a lot.
