My dog gave birth one week ago. The pups are all doing great and the mother is being fed dry puppy chow at all times and white rice with boiled chicken 4 times a day. I have noticed she isnt drinking much water. I have been offering milk ..about a quarter cup at a time a few times a day. How can I get her to drink more water ?

I am feeding what my vet advised me to do. I also asked my vet about water and she said that as long as I see her drinking it she is fine. I was just wanting suggestions as to get her to frink more.

As long as you have water available, the don't sweat it.
Dogs will drink when they need to.

does she like her dry food mixed with water to make a gravy some dog foods do this make sure water is in front of her at all times and what about chicken broth if you are boiling rice maybe a brown rice instead but give her the juice after boiling these things up let cool first and if u do up a bunch of broth it you can freeze it you can also buy it in stores and even though you might not think she is not drinking enough keep an eye on her urine if it is not dark yellow and she has good milk production and is doing well in other respects she is probably taking in plenty of water. if she has a change of behavior or seems ill or pups dont seem to be thriving get her to a vet and take puppies with you if u go so vet can check them might save u a trip good luck

I solved the problem by buying canned dog food and adding a lot of water to it to make it like soup!

Add some chicken or beef broth to it, about half and half. That should do the trick. Also milk is not good for dogs. You can give her calcium tablets.

Call your vet and ask him this question and while you have him on the phone schedule a spay appointment for the mother dog.

Well if that is what you vet told you to do that must be the best advice.
