The training MUST start the day you bring the dog home. You must be very stern with a Saint pup. Let them know you love them and you are going to take proper care of them. They are very Loyal but, really stupid until about one year of age. Sorry but, most may not agree. You need to have a heavy hand with them at an early age. If a Saint EVER gets the idea it can get over on you boy, are you in for it. Right now the pup may seem very sweet and managable. But, if you dont make a lasting impression of your dominance in six months you may have a hundred pound brute totally out of control. It is much easier now, trust me. Saints are different than other dogs. You cant really hurt them if you are stern. Leash training NOW is a must. They can pull over 3000 lbs when fully grown. Training then is almost impossible. They rarely have any concept of their size. An untrained Saint thinks he is the size of a Yorkie. They will jump on people and can really do damage. The basics (sit stay down) are the most important. Dont teach a Saint to give its paw. They are very pawzie naturally. Once you teach them that they will knock down every little kid they see. They Love children. Crating is a MUST. They will eat your whole house if allowed access. At one year it seems a light goes off in their heads. They calm down a bit and start to act a little more intellegent. By two years old they are WONDERFUL. Email me if I can help.
Sorry for any mis-spellings, my spell check isnt working.

Saint Bernard's will grow very big ,and very strong , so enroll in training classes , read books on saint Bernard's .Read books on dominance, not that they are particularly dominant breed, there are normally a very easy going loving gentle breed ,but they need to know the boundaries and the household use , remember your dog is going to grow big , and you don;t want to be having arguments with a giant dominant st Bernard because you will lose. Take puppy out socialize puppy providing all jabs are to date introduce him to everything and anything , people, children , elderly people dogs let his stroked and petted, let him butt sniff as many dogs as he can , let him enjoy canine play..But do enroll in training classes , do lay down ground rules , don't let him do anything now that you wont let him do when he is bigger that includes sitting on your lap.Do read books , on training , on , dominance , on saint Bernard's , they are such a use full source of information
