Because that is the idea/principal be hind Islam- to conquer those who oppose their view point.
"So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters [particularly Jews and Christians] wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush" (Quran, Surah 9.5)
How else are we to interpret this passage, other than muslims are to wage war if opposition does not cave to their request? Your book quoted here.

historic past has shown that Islam become unfold via the sword. that's humorous that fundamentalist Islamists (like Osama bin weighted down and Ayman Zawahiri) rail regarding the Crusades and Crusaders whilst very honestly ignoring their very own previous historic past. The Crusades have been usually a backlash against Moslem conquests and compelled conversion via the sword. regrettably the Crusaders did the comparable concern, yet that's all of the Muslims look to recollect.

He didn't have the Internet. ((kidding))
Because when he started preaching in a peaceful way. 'To each his own.' He was kicked out of his own home, humiliated and a hand full of people wanted to follow him. But, when he came back with lots of arms. People caved in, and thought aha, if he is that strong, then it must be because Allah was helping him. That is why.
Muslims, if you don't know that. then you don't know anything about Muhammad and how Islam spread from one country to the next. As if it was they want from one country to the next giving flowers. Be real. Please. This is just history.
When he was a nice sweet man, who wanted to preach and make something of himself. He was not taken serious. Not even by his own family. His own kin use to think he was his uncles' slave. Look it up. When he changed his way. people paid atttention.
majeed3245, You know you are wrong. Ask yourself. Where did he meet his first wife? Syria. That is outside of Arabia.
How about the over night trip to Jerusalem! Are you saying it never happened! oops you made a mistake man. Just two examples of many. Muhammad was a leader. It doesn't mean he was fighting all of them by himself. He had soldiers working for him. That should be obvious to anyone.
Islam is the religion of peace of Muslims, not everyone else. Not even within them, they don't have peace. Sunnis and Shias killing each others. Where is the peace. Even after the death of Muhammad. The Muslims went at each others throats to see who will take the leadership after him.
In the news. Turky. The Turks are fighting with the kirds. both are Muslims. Where is the peace!

Prophet Muhammad(PBUH*) did not use war to spread Islam. There was a treaty between Mecca Pagans and Muhammad(PBUH*) and his followers and that treaty wasn't broken for 13 years. The treaty was about as long as it was intact then there would be no war between the two different parties. Islam was not spread by the sword either. Muhammad(PBUH*) did not found Islam. It is the religion of ALLAH(SWT); that ALLAH(SWT) chose for all mankind. Muhammad(PBUH*) was sent to perfect Islam and given the Qur'an as a guidance for all mankind. ALLAH(SWT) has protected the Qur'an from being altered or changed like the Torah and Injeel(bible) were changed by man. First off that verse has to do with the time of Muhammad(PBUH*) when people were trying to kill him every day and night because they chose to ignore the Prophet(PBUH*) and discredit ALLAH(SWT). It doesn't apply to modern times. Please quit taking verses out of context. As for Islam coming to the West General Saladin and the Muslims of the Muslim empire that lasted for 700 years by the way did not know there was any land past Spain. They were under the assumption that they had taken it all. But if they had known about the Americas then they would have come here and shown Islam to the Native Americans and other people living in the Americas. During the time of the Muslim empire or Muslim Golden Age Jews, Christians and Muslims lived in peace side by side. It was General Saladin who allowed the Jews to come back into Jerusalem, Palestine after he took Palestine back for the Muslims and the Christians kicked the Jews out. It was General Saladin who gave the Christians camels, and horses and supplies to make it back to their families. It was Muslims who invented the first demcoracy, perfected the Roman Mathematical system by adding the number 0 making large numbers possible, built many of the Universities and decorated many of the Palaces and Churches in Spain. A Muslim wrote the first book on Medicine which was used by the world for 700 years. There are many cities in Spain today that still have the Arabic towns that Muslims named when they went and conquered Spain during the Muslim Empire. There was a time when Muslims were very smart and there were no poor people in all the world because the leaders of the Islamic Empire forced the rich people to give their money to the poor. They searched in Africa and Asia and there were no poor people. Everyone was rich. Muslims saw the New World before Christopher Columbus. They saw the New World in the 700s.

For the same reasons Christians have through the centuries.
And remember this: Islam started around the year 610 CE. That means it's about 1400 hundred years old.
You wanna take a wild guess at how many people Christians were killing in 1400 CE?
Religion is religion my friend - watch it with concern and vigilance.

Would you mind putting up the two verses before and the two verses after that reference you mentioned please?
And Knock yourself out, i think what you're talking about is the actions of people who claim to be muslims, not Islam itself. I say this because 19th century Britain was more backwards than Islamic teachings that are thousands of years old. Women weren't allowed to have ownership of property, inclusing businesses, they weren't allowed to keep their children after a divorce and men gained a divorce more easily than a woman. Islam allows women to keep their children after a divorce, she can have a divorce whenever she wants to, and is entitled to run businesses and own properties. These are only a few examples :) However, if you're saying that the laws of a Muslim country take away the right of women, then i completely agree with you. If you think i'm wrong, please correct me.

Mohammad never went out of Arabia.
You know nothing about Mohammad and Muslims. You are talking all lies that anti-Muslims have fed you. You need to use your head and read history of Muslims and Isalm first before asking silly questions. Try reading books on Isalm in Library. I pray to God for you,
May God lead you to the Truth if you seek the Truth.

That is absolute rubbish and you know it. Their are a few people on here who think it's clever to quote from the Quran out of context and make it seem like it means something it doesn't just to misguide people. If the Quran teaches us to kill the non-believers like you say it does, with 2 billion muslims worldwide, there would be no non-believers left, only muslims.
