Sometimes if a tooth has a questionably-small cavity we will recommend a new product called MI paste. It helps in areas where teeth are decalcifying, but once the cavity is there, there is no way to regenerate enamel or remove decay. If the cavity continues to go untreated it will eventually get into the nerve and can be extremely painful. The only recourse for that would mean a root canal or extraction.
Have the filling done while it is small and it will be less to worry about later on.

No if you don't get it filled the cavity will grow and will then it will get into the nerve of the tooth at that point you would need a root canal to fix it, if you still did nothing (although I doubt you could go this long because you would be in severe pain and have quite an infection), the tooth would break off and the rotten root would be stuck in your mouth and your breath would be terrible and it would be all around disgusting. If you don't want to get it filled you can have the tooth pulled now but why lose a tooth when all you need is a simple filling? Good luck and I hope you get it taken care of soon.

Maybe and sort of. In most places in the US this is not possible (yet). The tooth should be able to be minorly opened, the decay scooped out, then the remainder zapped with ozone. This sterilizes it and causes alot of it to heal. The area where the enamel was violated will need some filling, but this can all be done without being numb. This technology is available worldwide except in the US (FDA) This technology stands to reduce the overall need for root canals. They approve viagra, but to heck with people's dental issues! If you chew a lot of Trident White gum for a year it will make it go away. I was once told I had a couple small cavities. I moved and never got them filled; however, I did start chewing Trident White in an effort to quit smoking. Anyway, I went back to another dentist a year later and he said I had no cavities. It must've been the Trident White I tell ya!
