Many insurance companies notify the States DMV when insurance lapses or is cancelled.

In the state of OH, where I live, the BMV sends a form that wants me to send them my insurance information. They do it randomly, but I've had 2 in the last yr & a half. My husband & I take the form to the insurance agent to have him fill in the information & send it off.

They don't have to. If your ins lapses or is cancelled, the ins co notifies the BMV.

MOST OF THEM DO NOT BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU DON'T HAVE INSURANCE TO ME AND THAT WOULD BE THE ONLY REASON TO ASK THIS TYPE OF QUESTION.
