This morning my doctor requested I had x-rays done which I did and now he's demanding I get a CAT scan. I told him I didn't really think one was neccessay because 1.) i have minimal insurance and 2.) he's my pain management doctor not my primary physician. He said that if I didn't get the CAT scan I shouldn't bother to show up to my next appointment. I know it's not neccesarily right but can he do that legally?

Any help would be appreciated.

You can both legally "fire" each other. You probably pissed him off a little when you said you didn't think a Cat Scan was necessary. You should have told him the truth.

If your problem is ruining the quality of your life, I recommend you get the Cat Scan. Your primary reffered you to HIM, so your primary is out of it now. Unless you want to go back to your primary, and request a second opinion. I have a feeling the 2nd doctor will request a Cat Scan too.

Good luck to you. -LL

You do not say what your symptoms are or were? Like was this a one off visit have you seen him before, do you have a underlying condition? He is your pain doctor and so you are in pain because?
See it from his point of view. Patient is in Pain I am the Pain Doctor. I suggest X drug, I assume Patient take drug returns and pain is constant, so send for a x-ray which is normal, therefore rule out joint pain, bone cancer, bone break, leaving soft tissue problem. Order CT scan if that shows nothing then stop drug treatment. If on the other hand it reveals the exact problem, well move to surgery, or correction and Patient is well.

A CT scan will show soft tissue damage a x ray wouldn't be able to. He is telling you this because the problem may still be a mystery to him and if you don't get th CT scan, then he still wont know what to treat. He can reccomend that scan yes, and he said not to bother to show up to the next appointment because if he doesn't know what the problem is, then he can't fix it.

they have no right to do that if you have minimal insurance or even u have good insurance because a patient has a right to say no to treatment at anytime

I think they can terminate you as a patient, if dr/patient relationship is broken.
